Determination of Final Strand Slips of Prestressed Precast Hollow-Core Slabs Subjected to Flexural Load Using Machine Learning Algorithms

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Precast prestressed concrete hollow-core slabs (HCUs) are structural elements with less self-weight, providing improved structural effectiveness in withstanding the straining action and allowing for a long span.

Prediction model for development length of corroded prestressing strand considering rotation-affected bond failure mechanism

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering
Evaluation of corrosion’s effect on the development length of prestressing strand is crucial for pretensioned prestressed concrete structures serving in the aggressive environment.

Temperature Compensation of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors in Smart Strand

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Compared to other types of sensors, fiber optic sensors have improved accuracy and durability. Recently, the Smart Strand was developed to maximize the advantages of fiber optic sensors for measuring the cable forces in prestressed concrete structures or

Pull-Out Strength and Bond Behavior of Prestressing Strands in Prestressed Self-Consolidating Concrete [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2014
With the extensive use of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) worldwide, it is important to ensure that such concrete can secure uniform in-situ mechanical properties that are similar to those obtained with properly consolidated concrete of conventional fluidity.

A Sensor-Type PC Strand with an Embedded FBG Sensor for Monitoring Prestress Forces

open access: yesSensors, 2015
Prestressed Concrete Wire and Strand (PC) strands are the most used materials to introduce prestress in a Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) structure. However, it is difficult to evaluate the final prestress force of the PC strand after prestressing or its ...

Analysis of Short-Term Prestress Losses in Post-tensioned Structures Using Smart Strands

open access: yesInternational Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials, 2022
The proper estimation of prestressing force (PF) distribution is critical to ensure the safety and serviceability of prestressed concrete (PSC) structures. Although the PF distribution can be theoretically calculated based on certain predictive equations,

Flexural Behavior of Partially Pretensioned Continuous Concrete Beams

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2017
This paper describes flexural behavior of two spans continuous rectangular concrete beams reinforced with mild steel and partially prestressing strands, to evaluate using different prestressing level and prestressing area in continuous prestressed beams ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Mechanical Behaviors of Corroded Prestressing Strands

open access: yes, 2023
AbstractCorrosion will reduce the cross-sectional area of strands and deteriorate the mechanical property of prestressing strands. In this chapter, nineteen corroded strands are obtained through controlling stress level, corrosion time, and chloride ion concentration under artificial climate conditions. Then, the size and geometry of corrosion pits are

Long-Term Characteristics of Prestressing Force in Post-Tensioned Structures Measured Using Smart Strands

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The proper distribution of prestressing force (PF) is the basis for the design of prestressed concrete (PSC) structures. However, the PF distribution obtained by predictive equations of prestress losses has not been sufficiently validated by comparison ...
