Glucose metabolism by Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 2000Glucose metabolism by Prevotella intermedia and Prevotella nigrescens were investigated. Glucose increased the anaerobic growth of these bacteria and promoted the accumulation of intracellular polysaccharide. The polysaccharide was confirmed to be glycogen‐like glucan by the absorption spectrum of iodine‐polysaccharide complex and the sugar composition.

The bacteriophages of ruminal prevotellas
Folia Microbiologica, 2001Rumen bacteriophage-lyzed bacterial strains of the genus Prevotella were isolated and preliminarily characterized. The strain TCl-1 the species P. bryantii was the only prevotella strain successfully infected with filter sterilized rumen fluid from a black-and-white Holstein cow.

Purpose: A relationship between the distribution of periodontal bacteria species and malodor in children has not been sufficiently investigated. The present study was undertaken to determine the presence of 3 periodontopathic bacteria (Prevotella spp. P. intermedia, P. nigrescens, P.

Megaphages, the largest phage genomes sequenced to date, are abundant in faecal microbiomes from humans, baboons and pigs, leading us to question whether there is an upper limit to the size of viruses relative to their hosts.

The gram‐negative, anaerobic bacterium Prevotella intermedia plays an important role in the progression of periodontitis, whereas the etiological role of the closely related but phenotypically indistinguishable species Prevotella nigrescens is controversial.

Molecular monitoring of ruminal prevotellas
Folia Microbiologica, 2001The development and preliminary use of two different molecular approaches for rapid enumeration and monitoring of ruminal prevotellas are described. Several oligonucleotide DNA probes, specific for the genus Prevotella and the species P. ruminicola and P.
