The Effect of Digestive Capacity on the Intake Rate of Toxic and Non-Toxic Prey in an Ecological Context. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Digestive capacity often limits food intake rate in animals. Many species can flexibly adjust digestive organ mass, enabling them to increase intake rate in times of increased energy requirement and/or scarcity of high-quality prey.

First report of lionfish prey from Western Florida waters as identified by DNA barcoding [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
DNA barcoding was used to identify prey fragments recovered from the stomachs of lionfish harvested during the 2016 Sarasota Lionfish Derby. A total of 305 prey fragments were recovered from 50 stomachs (mean = 4.6 per stomach), of which 184 (60.3 ...

Home range and habitat use by Kemp's Ridley turtles in West-Central Florida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Kemp's ridley turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) is an endangered species whose recovery depends in part on the identification and protection of required habitats.

Spotted hyaena Crocuta crocuta feeding ecology and selectivity of large herbivorous prey in the Namib desert

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
We have investigated the relationship between spotted hyaenas in the south Namib Desert and large herbivorous prey and have summarized an updated overview of predator‐prey relationships in this resource‐limited arid environment.

Movement patterns of cheetahs ( Acinonyx jubatus ) in farmlands in Botswana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Botswana has the second highest population of cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) with most living outside protected areas. As a result, many cheetahs are found in farming areas which occasionally results in human-wildlife conflict.

Prey distribution and foraging preference for tits

open access: yesORNITHOLOGICAL SCIENCE, 2002
We examined the abundance and distribution of prey in four different height strata and eight tree species in a temperate forest, and analyzed the influence on foraging preference by three breeding tit (Parus) species. Densities of arthropod prey for tits in canopy foliage varied with tree species but not with height.

Plant Resources as a Factor Altering Emergent Multi-Predator Effects. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Multiple predator effects (MPEs) can modify the strength of pest regulation, causing positive or negative deviations from those that are predicted from independent effects of isolated predators.

Prey preferences of notonectids towards larval mosquitoes across prey ontogeny and search area [PDF]

open access: yesPest Management Science, 2019
AbstractBACKGROUNDPredatory biological control agents can be effective natural means of managing pests, vectors and invasive species. However, the strength of predator–prey interactions can be regulated through context‐dependencies that often remain unquantified.
