Wnt proteins can direct planar cell polarity in vertebrate ectoderm

open access: yeseLife, 2016
The coordinated orientation of cells across the tissue plane, known as planar cell polarity (PCP), is manifested by the segregation of core PCP proteins to different sides of the cell.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

COMPARATIVE FOLIAR EPIDERMAL STUDIES IN CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS (STAPF.) AND CYMBOPOGON GIGANTEUS (HOCHST.) CHIOV. IN NIGERIA

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2007
The foliar epidermal studies were carried out on Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon giganteus with the aim of determining the patterns of variation in their epidermal characteristics and assessing their value in species identification and classification.

Particle Simulation on Epidermal Skin Formation - Mechanism of Basal Layer Formation - [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Skin is the largest organ of the human body. The bottom of the epidermis is called the basal layer and is very uneven. However, the mechanism of uneven formation of the basal layer has not yet been elucidated.

Prickle is phosphorylated by Nemo and targeted for degradation to maintain Prickle/Spiny-legs isoform balance during planar cell polarity establishment.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2018
Planar cell polarity (PCP) instructs tissue patterning in a wide range of organisms from fruit flies to humans. PCP signaling coordinates cell behavior across tissues and is integrated by cells to couple cell fate identity with position in a developing ...

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.
