Prognostic scores in primary biliary cholangitis

open access: yesFuture Science OA
Aim: Evaluating prognostic scores' utility in predicting ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) biochemical response (BR) and long-term liver-related complications in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) patients.

Moderate increase of MET in hepatocytes protects against cholestatic liver injury by promoting an effective antioxidant response

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Moderate overexpression of wild‐type Met in hepatocytes (Alb‐R26Met mouse model) boosts a strong antioxidant response dependent on the glutathione system while impairing TGF‐β signaling in the liver. This leads to improved liver regeneration and protects against DDC‐induced injury, a model for cholestatic disease sharing features with primary ...

Steatotic Liver Disease: A Key Related Risk Factor in the Emergence of Metabolic Syndrome‐Related Disorders

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
It is speculated that the onset of obesity‐related diseases follows the sequence of obesity → SLD → MetS‐related diseases. In this study, the contribution of SLD to each MetS‐related disease was large for T2D and hypertension and SLD contributed to the onset and new onset of the disease by the 7‐year follow‐up.

The Hepatic Steatosis Diagnostic Performance Using Attenuation Imaging With the Magnetic Resonance Imaging‐Based Proton Density Fat Fraction as the Reference Standard: A Large, Prospective, Multicenter Cohort Study in Japan

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
In a multicenter cohort of 1059 patients, attenuation imaging (ATI) showed good diagnostic performance and strong correlation with MRI‐PDFF, supporting its value as a noninvasive method for evaluating hepatic steatosis. ABSTRACT Background Attenuation imaging (ATI) is used for the noninvasive diagnosis of hepatic steatosis (HS) based on the ultrasound ...

Machine Learning Approach Enables Highly Accurate Identification of At‐Risk Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatohepatitis

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim At‐risk metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH), characterized by significant activity and fibrosis, increases the risk of liver complications. Liver stiffness measurement (LSM), commonly used to detect significant fibrosis, has limitations in terms of accessibility and performance in certain populations.
