Zeb2 Controls Retinal Physiological and Pathological Angiogenesis by Regulating Astrocyte Proliferation and Differentiation

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
During development, the oxygen‐sensitive transcription factor Zeb2 restrains astrocyte proliferation and maturation to ensure balanced retinal angiogenesis. In disease, it promotes the neurotoxic A1 astrocyte phenotype and inflammation, thereby promoting reparative revascularization over pathological neovascularization.

Inflammatory Cytokines Impair Glucagon Expression and Secretion in Pancreatic α‐Cells

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Insulin resistance and obesity‐associated inflammation are key drivers in the pathogenesis of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Whilst inflammatory cytokines are well known to impair β‐cell function, their impact on pancreatic α‐cells and glucagon (GCG) regulation remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of the

Short‐Term Combined Treatment With Tirzepatide and Metformin for Overweight/Obese Chinese Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Prospective, Open‐Label, Randomised Controlled Trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims This study aimed to assess the effects of low‐dose tirzepatide combined with metformin (COM) versus metformin (MET) monotherapy in overweight/obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Materials and Methods Sixty overweight/obese women with PCOS were randomised to the MET group (1000 mg twice daily [BID]) or the COM group (MET ...

Phenotypic characterization of Arabidopsis thaliana mutants that alleviate root growth defects in a vitamin B6 biosynthesis mutant

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Vitamin B6 is a critical molecule for plant metabolism and development. Rsr4‐1, a loss‐of‐function mutant in a vitamin B6 biosynthesis gene, has a distinct short root phenotype. Here we describe five novel suppressor mutants with an rsr4‐1 background that have normalized root growth and distinct phenotypic and molecular characteristics, representing a ...

Expression of corticoid‐regulatory genes in the gills of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) parr and smolt and during salinity acclimation

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract In teleost fishes, cortisol is the major corticoid and has both glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid actions. However, how fish tissues discriminate between these distinct corticosteroid actions is unclear. In mammals, the major factors responsible for intracellular corticosteroid regulation are glucocorticoid receptors (grs) and the ...
