Identifying the Probability Distribution of Fatigue Life Using the Maximum Entropy Principle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
It is well-known that the fatigue lives of materials and structures have a considerable amount of scatter and they are commonly suggested to be considered in engineering design.

Filter Estimator Based on the Probability Distribution

open access: yesIEEE Access
In this paper, we propose a model of a parameter estimator filter for Black Box-type Stochastic Systems (BBSS), that is, only its inputs and outputs are known; considering its intrinsic properties observed in the second probability moment, in which the ...

Using Mixed Probability Distribution Functions for Modelling Non-Zero Sub-Daily Rainfall in Australia

open access: yesGeosciences, 2020
Probabilistic models for sub-daily rainfall predictions are important tools for understanding catchment hydrology and estimating essential rainfall inputs for agricultural and ecological studies.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Extended Rayleigh Probability Distribution to Higher Dimensions

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics
In this paper, we have derived and studied new probability distributions by extending the 2-dimensional Rayleigh distribution (RD). First, we extend the RD to 3 dimensions and then generalize it to k dimensions for any positive integer k ≥ 3.

Estimate the probability density function of maximum temperature for the Middle East

open access: yesPrzegląd Naukowy Inżynieria i Kształtowanie Środowiska, 2020
Pollution is one reasons for increase temperature which leads to increase the heat waves which have large socioeconomic and healthy impacts on Middle East.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Small area estimation under informative probability sampling of areas and within the selected areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this article we show how to predict small area means and obtain valid MSE estimators and confidence intervals when the areas represented in the sample are sampled with unequal probabilities that are possibly related to the true (unknown) area means ...

A New Index for Quantifying the Peakedness of a Probability Distribution

open access: yesMathematics
Peakedness is an important characteristic of probability distributions, and an effective method for quantifying peakedness is essential for statistical modeling and comparing different probability distributions in many practical applications.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.
