SmartScreen‐AIS: A High‐Throughput qPCR Chip for Nationwide Surveillance of Aquatic Invasive Species

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 3, May–June 2025.
We present a high‐throughput qPCR chip with 46 assays for early detection of aquatic invasive species. It was validated for use throughout the continental United States and can be subdivided into smaller assay panels as needed for specific regions or biomes.

Commensal bacteria from crayfish cuticle and their potential significance in biocontrol of causative agent of crayfish plague [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018

Perceived socio-economic impacts of the marbled crayfish invasion in Madagascar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The negative environmental and economic impacts of many invasive species are well known. However, given the increased homogenization of global biota, and the difficulty of eradicating species once established, a balanced approach to considering the ...

Contrasting Patterns of Genetic Variability in Pet‐Traded Red Swamp Crayfish Procambarus clarkii and Its Feral Populations

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT The ornamental pet trade has emerged as one of the most important pathways for the introduction of non‐native aquatic species. In the last two decades, freshwater crayfish have become a popular ornamental group, with numerous non‐native populations established through this way, including some populations of the North American red swamp ...

Predicting the spatio‐temporal dynamics of biological invasions: Have rapid responses in Europe limited the spread of the yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)?

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 1, Page 106-118, January 2025.
By predicting the extent of a biological invasion in the absence of timely interventions and comparing this to the current distribution of the yellow‐legged hornet, we found that management measures implemented in these countries appear to have been effective in limiting the spread of the species in Europe.

Influence of warming on the functional responses of invasive omnivores, Procambarus crayfishes [PDF]

open access: yes
The red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) and the marbled crayfish (Procambarus virginalis) are congeneric invasive species whose potential impacts in the Great Lakes basin have generated concern.

The role of abiotic and biotic factors in interspecific competition of Polish crayfish – comprehensive literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Invasive species are those that have been transferred by humans out of their natural range. Native crayfish species in Polish waters include: Astacus astacus and Pontastacus leptodactylus, whereas invasive species are: Pacifastacus leniusculus, Faxonius ...

Synthesizing the role of epigenetics in the response and adaptation of species to climate change in freshwater ecosystems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Freshwater ecosystems are amongst the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. Currently, climate change is one of the most important drivers of freshwater transformation and its effects include changes in the composition, biodiversity and functioning of ...
