Prodynorphin storage and processing in axon terminals and dendrites
The FASEB Journal, 2006The classical view postulates that neuropeptide precursors in neurons are processed into mature neuropeptides in the somatic trans ‐Golgi network (TGN) and in secretory vesicles during axonal transport.

Repeated ethanol administration decreases prodynorphin biosynthesis in the rat hippocampus
Neuroscience Letters, 1992The effect of single and repeated (19 days) intragastric ethanol administration on prodynorphin mRNA and alpha-neoendorphin levels in the hippocampus of the rat was studied using in situ hybridization and RIA methods, respectively. Single ethanol administration had no effect on either of these two parameters.

Ontogeny of prodynorphin gene expression in the rat hypothalamus
Developmental Brain Research, 1993Opioid peptides, deriving from prodynorphin, proenkephalin and proopiomelanocortin genes, have been shown to modulate brain development. Prodynorphin gene expression was studied here by in situ hybridization in the developing rat hypothalamus using oligodeoxynucleotide probes.

Prodynorphin mRNA expression in adult cultured rat ventricular cardiac myocytes
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1993Prodynorphin mRNA was synthesized both in rat atrial and ventricular tissue, as well as in adult cultured rat ventricular cardiac myocytes. In the cultured cells, the content of prodynorphin mRNA did not differ from that detected in the original ventricle, indicating that the myocardial cell is an important source for prodynorphin mRNA in the rat ...

Regulation of prodynorphin gene expression in the hippocampus by glucocorticoids
Molecular Brain Research, 1992The regulation of prodynorphin gene expression by glucocorticoids in the hippocampus was examined in rats that were adrenalectomized (ADX) either 7, 30, 60 and 90 days prior to sacrifice. Peptide levels in the hippocampus of ADX rats were determined by radioimmunoassay and immunocytochemistry.

CREB involvement in the regulation of striatal prodynorphin by nicotine
Psychopharmacology, 2011The transcription factor cAMP response element binding (CREB) protein plays a pivotal role in drug-dependent neuronal plasticity. CREB phosphorylation at Ser133 is enhanced by drugs of abuse, including nicotine. Dynorphin (Dyn) contributes to the addictive process and its precursor gene prodynorphin (PD) is regulated by CREB.

Allelic Variation in the Human Prodynorphin Gene Promoter and Schizophrenia
Neuropsychobiology, 2002Experimental and clinical studies suggest an involvement of the opioid neuropeptide system in schizophrenia. In particular, the prodynorphin (PDYN), the precursor of the dynorphin opioid peptides, has been shown to play an important role in several aspects of human mental diseases.

A solution hybridization assay for the quantitation of prodynorphin mRNA
Molecular Brain Research, 1987We have developed a RNA-RNA solution hybridization assay to quantitate the mRNA coding for prodynorphin precursor. This assay is extremely sensitive and highly specific. Using this assay we have measured the prodynorphin mRNA in various brain regions and reproductive tissues of rat.

A processing enzyme for prodynorphin derived peptides.
NIDA research monograph, 1988Endo-oligopeptidase A known to hydrolyse the Phe5-Ser6 bond of bradykinin and the Arg8-Arg9 bond of neurotensin has been shown to produce, by a single cleavage, leucine5-enkephalin from small prodynorphin derived enkephalin-containing peptides. The specificity constants (kcat/km) obtained for the hydrolysis of bradykinin, neurotensin and dynorphin B ...
