Progestins and uterine leiomyoma

open access: yesGynecological Endocrinology, 1999
Myomas are the most frequent benign gynecological tumors and are responsible for several symptoms and complaints. Their etiology is unknown and their pathology and proliferation is poorly understood. Besides the importance of estrogens for development and growth of the myoma, progesterone seems to play an important role in the modulation of mitotic ...

Immunology and progestins in pregnancy

open access: yesGynecological Endocrinology, 1999
Indications for a relationship of corpus luteum/progesterone and rate of abortions are well known for some time. Measurement of progesterone and clinical observations could demonstrate, that low serum progesterone levels indicate even better than HCG-measurements an abnormal course of pregnancy.

Progestins in Combined Contraceptives

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Medicine, 2013
While the estrogen component of oral contraceptive pills is kept at 20–30 μg of ethinyl estradiol/day, attention in the development of new combined contraceptive drugs has been focused on the progestin component. Most of the antiovulatory effects of oral contraceptive pills derive from the action of the progestin component.

Cross‐sectional and longitudinal metabolomics‐based profiles associated with oral contraceptive and progestin‐only pill use: A Finnish population‐based study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
In a metabolomics study of over 200 metabolites in 1721 fertile‐aged women, we found that current use of combined oral contraceptives (COC), especially third‐generation and other COCs, is associated with altered levels of several metabolic measures compared to nonuse of hormonal contraception or to use of a levonorgestrel intrauterine device (LNG‐IUD).
