Low plasma progranulin levels predict progranulin mutations in frontotemporal lobar degeneration

Neurology, 2008
Mutations in the progranulin gene (PGRN) were identified as the causal mechanism underlying frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). Most of these mutations are predicted to create null alleles leading to a 50% loss of progranulin transcript.Patients underwent clinical and neurologic examination at the Memory Clinic of the IRCCS S.

Progranulin antibodies in autoimmune diseases

Journal of Autoimmunity, 2013
Systemic vasculitides constitute a heterogeneous group of diseases. Autoimmunity mediated by B lymphocytes and their humoral effector mechanisms play a major role in ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) as well as in non-ANCA associated primary systemic vasculitides and in the different types of autoimmune connective tissue disorders and rheumatoid ...

In central nervous system, a growth factor progranulin (PGRN) is considered to play crucial roles in maintaining physiological functions, and mutations in PGRN gene cause TDP-43-positive frontotemporal lobar degeneration. We demonstrated a dynamic change of PGRN expression in ischemic rats, including increased levels of PGRN expression in microglia ...

Progranulin and frontotemporal lobar degeneration

Acta Neuropathologica, 2007
Frontotemporal lobar degeneration is the term used to describe the non-Alzheimer clinical syndromes of frontotemporal dementia, semantic dementia and progressive non-fluent aphasia, regardless of the underlying neuropathological features. Considerable progress has been made in recent years in our understanding of the aetiology of this disorder, notably

The role of progranulin in arthritis

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2016
Progranulin (PGRN) is a growth factor with a unique beads‐on‐a‐string structure that is involved in multiple pathophysiological processes, including anti‐inflammation, tissue repair, wound healing, neurodegenerative diseases, and tumorigenesis. This review presents up‐to‐date information concerning recent studies on the role of PGRN in inflammatory ...

Cerebrospinal Fluid Biomarkers in Progranulin Mutations Carriers

Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, 2011
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers (Aβ 1-42 , total tau, P-181 tau) are currently used to support a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The CSF profile in frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) caused by Progranulin (GRN) mutation is unknown.

Progranulin-Antikörper und hyperphosphoryliertes Progranulin in Vaskulitiden, Kollagenosen und Myositiden

2019

Progranulin and Inflammation/Neuroinflammation

2019
Progranulin (PGRN) and granulin (GRN) peptides are involved in peripheral inflammatory diseases and neuroinflammation. PGRN was shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect in its role as an antagonist of the TNF-α signaling pathway. On the other hand, GRN peptides stimulate immune cells to secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines.
