CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND CAPITAL MARKETS: A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

open access: yes, 2008
This paper outlines a conceptual framework of the relationship between corporate governance and two important determinants of capital market development namely, a firm’s access to finance, and its financial performance.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Climate Governance Post-2012, Options for EU Policy-Making. CEPS Policy Brief No. 177, November 2008 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This Policy Brief focuses on three issues that are especially important in the long-term development of the climate regime: (a) the challenge of the fragmentation of negotiations and governance systems; (b) the challenge of steering and evaluating novel ...

Exploring the relationship between governance mechanisms and contractor behaviors: insights from fairness perception

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
The principal-agent problem arising from the inconsistency of interests and information asymmetry between owner and contractors in construction projects inevitably leads to conflicts among project stakeholders.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Stealing Air and Land – The Politics of Translating Global Environmental Governance in Suau, Papua New Guinea

open access: yesConservation & Society, 2021
Global environmental governance today is grounded in a set of ontological assumptions that involve measurement and commodification of carbon emissions as tradeable units between countries for mitigating climate change and preventing deforestation.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Learning from cross-border mechanisms to support climate change adaptation in Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The impacts of climate change do not adhere to conventional governance boundaries. Floods for example do not stop at the state border, nor are storm surges contained within local government jurisdictions.

Establishing Balance in Project Governance: Exploring Yin-Yang and Mindfulness

open access: yes, 2022
Projects account for 20%–40% of all economic activity (Schoper et al., 2018). They are the main vehicle for achieving organizational strategies (Kwak & Anbari, 2009). Despite this, the rates of project success remain low.
