Metabolic Adaptation and Protein Complexes in Prokaryotes

open access: yesMetabolites, 2012
Protein complexes are classified and have been charted in several large-scale screening studies in prokaryotes. These complexes are organized in a factory-like fashion to optimize protein production and metabolism.

Mimicking Life: Autonomous Oscillating Artificial Cilia Driven by Chemical Power

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The synthesis and motion analysis of chemically actuated, individually autonomous artificial cilia are presented. Driven by an internal chemical reaction, the self‐driven individual cilia require no external stimuli. They undergo periodic oscillatory motion with a 3D beat pattern and exhibit chemotactic shifts, reminiscent of biological systems.

Development of an in situ small intestinal injection technique for targeted macromolecule delivery and in vivo functional studies in mice

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study developed a minimally invasive, in situ small intestinal injection technique for mice, enabling targeted delivery of bioactive molecules while bypassing gastric degradation. Validation using functional assays and single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals high‐mobility group box 1–mediated epithelial responses, offering a translational tool for gut ...

Predicting protein function with hierarchical phylogenetic profiles: The Gene3D phylo-tuner method applied to eukaryotic Genomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
"Phylogenetic profiling'' is based on the hypothesis that during evolution functionally or physically interacting genes are likely to be inherited or eliminated in a codependent manner.

Influence of age of aggregates and prokaryotic abundance on glucose and leucine uptake by heterotrophic marine prokaryotes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The kinetics of glucose and leucine uptake in attached and free-living prokaryotes in two types of microcosms with different nutrient qualities were compared.

The Development of Polyamines throughout Brassica rapa over its Lifecycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Polyamines are naturally produced chemicals in plants involved in growth, development and stress response. The primary objective of my study is to create a profile of changes in the entire life of the plant, in every organ at all stages of development ...

Application of chemotactic behavior for life detection

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
One excellent biosignature for the present detection of microbial life on Earth is motility, leading to its growing interest within the astrobiological community as an observable attribute that, if detected during future in situ space missions, could ...
