Untargeted Metabolomics Identifies N‐Lactoyl‐Amino Acids as Dose‐Responsive Plasma Biomarkers of Metformin Adherence in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Metformin is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug, yet adherence remains difficult to objectively assess. Using untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, we analyzed plasma from 637 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with confirmed metformin use and 143 nondiabetic controls, annotating 614 metabolites.

Electrochemical Three‐Component Synthesis of Vinyl Sulfonamides via Decarboxylative Sulfonylation of Cinnamic Acids

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
An efficient, metal‐free electrochemical three‐component reaction of cinnamic acids, SO2, and amines to access (E)‐β‐styryl sulfonamides is reported. Utilizing graphite electrodes and SO2 stock solutions, this decarboxylative protocol proceeds under mild conditions with high regio‐ and stereoselectivity.

Efficient Enantiomeric Selectivity Separation Via Homochiral Graphene Oxide Membrane

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A new type of chiral graphene oxide (GO) membrane is proposed that exhibits a separation factor of up to 20.1 as well as a preferential enantiomer flux of 4.5 mmol m−2 h−1. Moreover, the only first FPLC‐compatible column has been further developed via stacking these chiral GO membranes.

Ring Formation in Sesquiterpene Synthesis: Biomimetic vs. Non‐Biomimetic Strategies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A short review of cyclase enzyme‐mediated ring formation in sesquiterpene biosynthesis is presented as a prelude to six case studies examining the merits and demerits of biomimetic vs. non‐biomimetic strategies for carbocyclisation in the total synthesis of this iconic natural product class.
