It may be said with some justification that the phenothiazine group of drugs plays an important part in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, this being specially so in psychiatric hospitals where chronically disturbed patients are treated. Promazine or Sparine is one of such phenothiazine derivatives.

Promazine in mental deficiency
The Psychiatric Quarterly, 1958Promazine was given over a 10-month period to 76 patients. It produced marked or moderate improvement in 53 patients. It was effective with patients in an age range from eight to 50 years, and an IQ range from 13 to 80. The only side effect observed was occasional drowsiness, which was easily counteracted.
