Proper Efficiency and Tradeoffs in Multiple Criteria and Stochastic Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Operations Research, 2017
The mathematical equivalence between linear scalarizations in multiobjective programming and expected-value functions in stochastic optimization suggests to investigate and establish further conceptual analogies between these two areas. In this paper, we focus on the notion of proper efficiency that allows us to provide a first comprehensive analysis ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Application of PGD separation of space to create a reduced-order model of a lithium-ion cell structure

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2023
Lithium-ion cells can be considered a laminate of thin plies comprising the anode, separator, and cathode. Lithium-ion cells are vulnerable toward out-of-plane loading.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Enhancing hydrodynamic efficiency in Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) utilizing adjoint method and proper orthogonal decomposition.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
In recent years, there has been a significant need for high-performing and efficient Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). This is primarily because of their use in offshore mineral exploitation and oceanographic research.

Density Matrix Renormalization for Model Reduction in Nonlinear Dynamics

open access: yes, 2007
We present a novel approach for model reduction of nonlinear dynamical systems based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). Our method, derived from Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG), provides a significant reduction in computational effort ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

VLBI astrometry of two millisecond pulsars

open access: yes, 2012
We present astrometric results on two millisecond pulsars, PSR B1257+12 and PSR J1022+1001, as carried out through VLBI. For PSR B1257+12, a model-independent distance of $710_{\rm -38}^{\rm +43}$ pc and proper motion of ($\mu_{\rm \alpha}=46.44\pm0.08 ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
