Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 1983SUMMARYThe neuropathology in two biochemically documented cases of propionic acidemia is presented. While spongiform changes in white matter were seen in the infant who died at 12 days, no such changes were evident in an older patient who died at age 23 months.

The Reaction Rates of Propionic and Acetic Propionic Anhydrides
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1936The infrared absorption spectra of mixtures of water and acetic propionic and of propionic anhydrides have been measured in the region from 5μ to 6.4μ. The intensity of the bands was found to decrease with time. By using the relative intensity of the anhydride band the reaction rate was calculated for three concentrations.

Syntrophic Propionate Oxidation
1990In vivo high-resolution NMR with the Gram-negative Syntrophobacter wolinii and a Gram-positive syntrophic propionate oxidizing organism, indicated the involvement of an oxaloacetate: propionyl-CoA transcarboxylase in propionate oxidation. This finding was confirmed by enzyme measurement in cell-free extracts.
