Characterization of a phage infecting Propionibacterium freudenreichii

open access: yes, 1992
Bacteriophage 822 was isolated from a Swiss-type cheese. Out of 30 strains ofPropionibacterium freudenieichii, only the strain TL 110 was sensitive to this phage. 822 morphology isvery similar to those of phages infecting P acnes.

Propionibacterium freudenreichii freudenreichii B3523 reduces cecal colonization and internal organ dissemination of multidrug-resistant Salmonella Heidelberg in finishing turkeys

open access: yesJournal of Applied Poultry Research, 2021
Summary: Previously, we reported that a dairy-originated probiotic bacterium, Propionibacterium freudenreichii subsp. freudenreichii B3523 (PF) reduced cecal colonization of multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Heidelberg (SH) in poults (2-wk ...

A temporal-omic study of Propionibacterium freudenreichii CIRM-BIA1 adaptation strategies in conditions mimicking cheese ripening in the cold. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Propionibacterium freudenreichii is used as a ripening culture in Swiss cheese manufacture. It grows when cheeses are ripened in a warm room (about 24°C). Cheeses with an acceptable eye formation level are transferred to a cold room (about 4°C), inducing

Inoculum concentration and inoculation time for propionic acid production from whey using mixed culture of Lactobacillus helveticus and Propionibacterium freudenreichii PS-1

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2017
The production of propionic acid using skim serum by-products of the dairy industry was investigated, and the influence of inoculum concentration of Propionibacterium freudenreichii PS-1 and its time of inoculation for the production of propionic ...

Complete genomic sequences of Propionibacterium freudenreichii phages from Swiss cheese reveal greater diversity than Cutibacterium (formerly Propionibacterium) acnes phages

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2018
Background A remarkable exception to the large genetic diversity often observed for bacteriophages infecting a specific bacterial host was found for the Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes) phages, which are highly homogeneous.
