Occurrences of Prorocentrum minimum (Pavillard) in México

Harmful Algae, 2005
Prorocentrum minimum is a planktonic dinoflagellate known to produce red tides that can be harmful. To recognize localities and understand occurrences of Prorocentrum minimum blooms in Mexico, published data of plankton from 1942 to present, as well as unpublished data from the authors, were reviewed.

[Redescription of Prorocentrum donghaiense Lu and comparison with relevant Prorocentrum species].

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2010
In this paper, the detailed morphology of Prorocentrum donghaiense was studied. Taxonomic comparison was made between P. donghaiense and other relevant Prorocentrum species. The results suggested that distinct differences existed among them with respect to their conservative characteristics of morphology and cell sizes. This kind of discrepancy was far

Effects of ambient DIN:DIP ratio on the nitrogen uptake of harmful dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum and Prorocentrum donghaiense in turbidistat

Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2011
The effects of varying nitrogen (N): phosphorus (P) ratios on the growth and N-uptake and assimilation of the harmful dinoflagellates Prorocentrum minimum and Prorocentrum donghaiense were examined in turbidistat culture experiments. Algal cultures were supplied with media containing PO43− in various concentrations to obtain a wide range of N:P ratios.

Okadaic acid antibody localizes to chloroplasts in the DSP-toxin-producing dinoflagellates Prorocentrum lima and Prorocentrum maculosum

Phycologia, 1994
Abstract Thin sections of Prorocentrum lima (Ehrenberg) Dodge and Prorocentrum maculosum Faust, two dinoflagellates known to produce diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP), were probed with a monoclonal antibody targeted against okadaic acid (OA), the primary toxin in DSP outbreaks. The antibody localizes primarily to chloroplasts and pyrenoids and, to a

Inducible Mixotrophy in the Dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2015
Abstract Prorocentrum minimum is a neritic dinoflagellate that forms seasonal blooms and red tides in estuarine ecosystems. While known to be mixotrophic, previous attempts to document feeding on algal prey have yielded low grazing rates. In this study, growth and ingestion rates of

Light scattering by Prorocentrum micans: a new method and results

Applied Optics, 1992
Striking light-scattering behavior was observed from a marine dinoflagellate, Prorocentrum micans. Measurements of the angular dependence of the 16 Mueller matrix elements were performed on single cells with a polarization-modulation nephelometer by using a new method for cell immobilization.

Prorocentrum playfairi and prorocentrum foveolata , two new dinoflagellates from Australian freshwaters

British Phycological Journal, 1987
Two new species of the dinoflagellate genus Prorocentrum from freshwaters in Tasmania are described from scanning electron microscopy. Prorocentrum playfairi occurs in manifestly fresh waters, some far inland, and in marine coastal waters. Prorocentrum foveolata occurs in fresh coastal lagoons.

Prorocentrum Minimum (Dinophyceae) in the Adriatic and Black Sea

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1990
During the summer months of 1983 Prorocentrum minimum (Pavillard) Schiller, not earlier recorded from the Adriatic, constituted a considerable proportion of the regular summer bloom in the Sibenik Bay (eastern Adriatic coast). During the subsequent years (1984,1985,1986) the proportions of P.

Cytotoxicity in the marine dinoflagellate Prorocentrum mexicanum from Brazil

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology, 2006
The microscopic algae in the oceans are crucial food for filter feeding bivalve shellfish (oysters, mussels, scallops, clams, etc.) as well as for the larvae of commercially important crustaceans. Some species of microalgae have the capacity to produce potent toxins, such as saxitoxins and ciguatoxins, which may intoxicate humans.
