Endothermy, neuron counts, and other issues: Further remarks on neurocognitive evolution in fossil vertebrates

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 10, Page 2560-2573, October 2026.
Abstract Last year, we challenged the view that large‐bodied theropod dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus rex resembled primates in cognition and behavior, a proposition made by Herculano‐Houzel in 2023. More recently, Jensen et al. have criticized our work on this topic, raising methodological and conceptual issues.

The Role of Noncoding RNA in MGMT‐Positive Glioblastoma: A Narrative Review

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive primary malignant tumor of the central nervous system and is characterized by rapid progression, frequent recurrence, and poor survival outcomes. The current standard of care, comprising maximal safe surgical resection followed by radiotherapy with concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide (TMZ), has ...

In Vitro Antioxidant, Antibacterial, and Cholinesterase‐Inhibitory Properties of an Aqueous Euphorbia macroclada Root Extract Obtained by Ultrasound‐Assisted Extraction

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2026.
The aqueous root extract of Euphorbia macroclada was obtained using ultrasound‐assisted extraction (UAE). The extract showed remarkable butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibition relevant to Alzheimer's disease. Strong antioxidant capacity was demonstrated through multiple radical scavenging and reducing assays.

Development of Thalamo‐Telencephalic Circuits in a Reptile

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 10, October 2026.
The development of forebrain connections was investigated in the Alligator. Four circuits were identified: ipsilateral basal nuclei to the dorsal thalamus, ipsilateral lateral forebrain bundle, and ipsilateral and contralateral medial forebrain bundle.

Modulation of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress via CEBPB: A Potential Molecular Link to Therapeutic Action in Substance Use Disorders

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 10, October 2026.
We identified endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress modulation as a convergent transcription signature across fentanyl and multiple substance use disorder (SUD)‐relevant treatments. Key ER stress genes, including TRIB3, XBP1, and DDIT3, were downregulated, while CEBPB emerged as a shared upstream regulator linked to ER stress–related proteins.

Molecular and Proteomic Profiling of Human Cerebral Organoid‑Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesDevelopmental Neurobiology, Volume 86, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Organoids are self‐organized, in vitro 3D structures derived from progenitor or pluripotent stem cells. During culture, these tissues secrete small extracellular vesicles (sEVs)—functional bioactive molecules—into their microenvironment. Here, we differentiated iPSC‐derived cerebral organoids (COs) under three culture conditions (static ...
