Prostaglandins in glaucoma

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2009
The prostaglandin-related topical medications include latanoprost, unoprostone, travoprost, and bimatoprost. They are the new class of glaucoma medications. Prostaglandin analogs reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) by improving uveoscleral outflow

Exogenous and Endogenous Hydrogen Sulfide Protects Gastric Mucosa against the Formation and Time-Dependent Development of Ischemia/Reperfusion-Induced Acute Lesions Progressing into Deeper Ulcerations

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an endogenous mediator, synthesized from l-cysteine by cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE), cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) or 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3-MST).

Regional distribution of the prostaglandin E2 receptor EP1 in the rat brain: accumulation in Purkinje cells of the cerebellum [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Neuroscience 27(3): 303-310 (2005), 2007
Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), is a major prostanoid produced by the activity of cyclooxygenases (COX) in response to various physiological and pathological stimuli. PGE2 exerts its effects by activating four specific E-type prostanoid receptors (EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4).

Mannose‐Glycated Metal‐Phenolic Microcapsules Orchestrate Phenotype Switch of Macrophages for Boosting Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Immunomodulatory metal‐phenolic microcapsules (mMPMs) is developed in this study that leverages dopamine‐modified hyaluronic acid and FeIII assemble on mannose‐glycated bovine serum albumin microbubbles. mMPMs effectively promote macrophage internalization and M1 polarization, enhancing pro‐inflammatory responses.

NSAIDs and Acute Pancreatitis: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2010
The resulting pain is the main symptom of acute pancreatitis and it should be alleviated as soon as possible. NSAIDs are the first line therapy for pain and they are generally administered to acute pancreatitis patients upon admission to the hospital. In

Post-ischaemic treatment with the cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor nimesulide reduces blood-brain barrier disruption and leukocyte infiltration following transient focal cerebral ischaemia in rats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry 100(4): 1108-1120 (2007), 2007
Several studies suggest that cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 plays a pivotal role in the progression of ischaemic brain damage. In the present study, we investigated the effects of selective inhibition of COX-2 with nimesulide (12 mg/kg) and selective inhibition of COX-1 with valeryl salicylate (VAS, 12-120 mg/kg) on prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels ...

PLXDC1+ Tumor‐Associated Pancreatic Stellate Cells Promote Desmoplastic and Immunosuppressive Niche in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the activation, heterogeneity, and regulatory roles of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) at single‐cell and spatial levels. It further identifies PLXDC1+ PSCs near aggressive LRRC15+ cancer‐associated myofibroblasts and SPP1+ macrophages, forming a desmoplastic and immunosuppressive tumor niche that promotes CD8+ T cell exhaustion ...

Lipoxins as biomarkers of lupus and other inflammatory conditions

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2011
Inflammatory events persist in systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) despite the use of anti-inflammatory (both steroidal and non-steroidal) and immunosuppressive drugs leading to delay in the healing/repair process and so tissue/organ damage continues ...

Wide therapeutic time window for nimesulide neuroprotection in a model of transient focal cerebral ischemia in the rat [PDF]

open access: yesBrain Research 1007(1-2): 98-108 (2004), 2007
Results from several studies indicate that cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is involved in ischemic brain injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of the selective COX-2 inhibitor nimesulide on cerebral infarction and neurological deficits in a standardized model of transient focal cerebral ischemia in rats.
