Synthetic Modification of Prostaglandin F2α Indicates Different Structural Determinants for Binding to the Prostaglandin F Receptor Versus the Prostaglandin Transporter

Molecular Pharmacology, 2000
Several principles governing the binding of E series prostaglandins to EP receptors have emerged in recent years. The C-1 carboxyl group binds electrostatically to a conserved arginine residue in the seventh transmembrane segment of the receptor. Prostaglandin E analogs involving bioisosteric replacements of the carboxyl group, such as acylsulfonamide,

Roles of Prostaglandin F Synthase

2001
Prostaglandin (PG) F2 is widely distributed in various organs, and exhibits various biological actions such as smooth muscle contraction of uterus [1], bronchus [2], and trachea [3], the initiation of parturition [4], and pain transmission [5]. PGF synthase (PGFS) is a dual function enzyme, which catalyzes the reduction of not only PGD2 but also PGH2 ...

Conformations of Prostaglandin F and Recognition of Prostaglandins by Their Receptors

Science, 1977
The conformation of prostaglandin F 2α (PGF 2α ) has been determined by x-ray diffraction techniques. Two independent conformers of PGF 2α , studied as the tris(hydroxymethyl)methylamine salt, are observed to adopt the familiar "hairpin" conformation with the α and ω ...

Specific reduction of E prostaglandins to F.alpha. prostaglandins and prostaglandin E2 to prostaglandin E1

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1971
This is an explanation of 2 highly specific reductive processes for the interconversion of primary PGs (prostaglandins). The laboratory procedures are described in detail and the chemical structures of substances involved in the process are diagrammed. A stereospecific reduction of PGE to PGFalpha is described.

Plasma prostaglandin F metabolite concentrations following cervical encerclage

Prostaglandins, 1980
Peripheral plasma concentrations of 13, 14-dihydro-15-keto prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGFM) were measured in seven women having elective cervical encerclage in an otherwise normal pregnancy. Three of seven patients had a statistically significant elevation of PGFM levels at 60 minutes after commencement of surgery.

Possible role of prostaglandin F in blastocyst implantation

Prostaglandins, 1986
The synthesis and release of Prostaglandin F (PGF) by the rabbit blastocyst and endometrium were investigated on Day 6 and Day 7, using radioimmunoassay, autoradiography and conversion experiments. The following results were obtained: The content of PGF in the blastocyst increased significantly (P less than 0.01) from Day 6 to Day 7. The content of PGF

Colostomy irrigation with prostaglandin F2α

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1982
Prostaglandin F2α applied directly in quantities up to 400 μ g had no clinical effect on the emptying time of the colon in patients undergoing colostomy irrigation.

Relationship between Prostaglandin F and Steroids in Human Peripheral Venous Plasma and Concentration of Prostaglandin F in Corpus Luteum

Asia-Oceania Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1984
AbstractConcentrations of prostaglandin F and steroids in plasma and in corpus luteum (CL) were studied by radioimmunoassay during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle in thirteen normal women. The average concentration of PGF in corpus luteum was 4.19 ± 1.59 ng/g (mean ± SE) (ranging from 0.03 to 20.5 ng/g) and in plasma was 208.1 ± 34.7 pg/ml ...

synthesis of progesterone and prostaglandin F by luteal tissue and prostaglandin F by endometrial tissue from the pig

Prostaglandins, 1978
Abstract The relationship between progesterone (P 4 ) synthesis in vitro by luteal tissue and prostaglandin F (PGF) synthesis in vitro by endometrium and luteal tissue from two stages of the cycle, Days 7 to 8 and 15 to 16, was determined.
