Case Report: High-grade anterior prostate cancer previously undetected by transrectal biopsy, diagnosed with MRI-US fusion transperineal robotic prostate biopsy [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2022
Seventy percent of anterior prostate cancer cases are diagnosed during rebiopsy. MRI-US fusion transperineal robotic prostate biopsy is an emerging diagnostic method and might be an effective one in diagnosing prostate cancers in difficult sites such as ...

Establishment of two new predictive models for prostate cancer to determine whether to require prostate biopsy when the PSA level is in the diagnostic gray zone (4–10 ng ml−1)

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2020
Our goal was to establish two new predictive models of prostate cancer to determine whether to require a prostate biopsy when the prostate-specific antigen level is in the diagnostic gray zone. A retrospective analysis of 197 patients undergoing prostate

Transrectal Prostatic Biopsy [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1971
Transrectal prostatic biopsy specimens were taken from 218 patients with prostatic symptoms-138 by the Franzen aspiration technique without anaesthesia as outpatients and 80 by the Silverman technique under general anaesthesia. A reliable diagnosis was obtained in 82% of the former and 95% of the latter.

Predictive factors of prostate cancer diagnosis with PSA 4.0–10.0 ng/ml in a multi-ethnic Asian population, Malaysia

open access: yesAsian Journal of Surgery, 2020
Summary: Objectives: To identify the associated factors determining prostate cancer detection using transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy, within a multi-ethnic Malaysian population with prostate specific antigen (PSA) between 4.0 and 10 ...

Initial experience with a novel method for cognitive transperineal magnetic resonance imaging-targeted prostate biopsy

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2020
A cognitive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-targeted prostate biopsy conducted by an experienced clinician enhances the detection rate of (high-grade) prostate cancer; however, this method is less successful in the hands of inexperienced surgeons ...

HistoScanningTM vs. standard multifocal biopsy for prostate cancer diagnosis: a comparison of diagnostic methods

open access: yesВестник урологии, 2023
Introduction. Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common malignant diseases. The prostate biopsy is the verification standard of PCa. The multifocal biopsy under ultrasound (US) guidance shows high rate of false negative results.

Usefulness of grayscale values measuring hypoechoic lesions for predicting prostate cancer: An experimental pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background: To ensure reproducibility and representativeness of hypoechoic lesions in transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS), we used grayscale values and evaluated their usefulness in predicting prostate cancer (PCA).

Risk of prostate cancer after isolated high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) detected on extended core needle biopsy : a UK hospital experience. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background High-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) is a precursor lesion to prostate cancer (CaP). UK-based studies examining the occurrence of isolated HGPIN and subsequent risk of CaP are lacking.
