Amplification of KCNMA1 : a potential therapeutic target in prostate cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in males and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in western countries. Although most prostate cancers initially respond well to androgen withdrawal, they become inevitably resistant to this treatment and ...

Serum testosterone and prostate-specific antigen levels are major risk factors for prostatic volume increase among benign prostatic hyperplasia patients

open access: yesAsian Journal of Urology, 2021
Objective: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common diseases found among elderly men. Even though multiple risk factors of BPH have been identified in the past, the risk factors which have a direct impact on prostate volume have not ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Transperineal template-guided saturation biopsy aimed at sampling one core for each milliliter of prostate volume: 103 cases requiring repeat prostate biopsy

open access: yesBMC Urology, 2017
Background We evaluated the cancer detection rate of prostate cancer using transperineal template-guided saturation biopsy aimed at sampling one core for each milliliter of prostate volume for patients requiring repeated prostate biopsies.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

Treatment outcomes of benign prostate hyperplasia by thulium vapoenucleation of the prostate in aging men

open access: yesUrological Science, 2016
Purpose: To analyze the outcomes of thulium vapoenucleation of the prostate (ThuVEP) in the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The outcomes of this increasingly popular procedure are yet to be confirmed in patients with various prostate sizes ...

Association of Urinary MyProstateScore, Age, and Prostate Volume in a Longitudinal Cohort of Healthy Men: Long-term Findings from the Olmsted County Study

open access: yesEuropean Urology Open Science, 2021
Background: Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA), used in prostate cancer screening, is nonspecific for cancer and is affected by age and prostate volume.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Finasteride Upregulates Expression of Androgen Receptor in Hyperplastic Prostate and Lncap Cells: Implications for Chemoprevention of Prostate Cancer

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Although finasteride is recognized for its role as a chemopreventive agent for prostate cancer, higher grades of malignancy have been reported.
