Fishing industry and related perspectives on the issues raised by no-take marine protected area proposals

open access: yes, 2008
In the face of growing calls for no-take marine protected areas (NTMPAs), the views of fishing industry representatives in south-west (SW) England on related issues are analysed.

First cloning, tissue-specific expression and molecular characterization of rig-i gene in whooper swan [PDF]

open access: yesKafkas Universitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Dergisi
To investigate the molecular characteristics of the RIG-I gene of whooper swan, RIG-I gene was cloned, sequenced and characterized, and the relative expression levels of the RIG-I gene in five tissues of whooper swans were determined by Real-time ...

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Melatonin-Mediated Circadian Rhythm Signaling Exhibits Bidirectional Regulatory Effects on the State of Hair Follicle Stem Cells

open access: yesBiomolecules
The development and regulation of hair are widely influenced by biological rhythm signals. Melatonin plays a crucial role as a messenger in transmitting biological rhythm signals, and its impact on hair development has been well documented.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Protected area management: collection and use of visitor data. Volume 1: Summary and recommendations

open access: yes, 2010
The management of protected areas in Australia is highly complex. Each state and territory government has its own agency that is broadly responsible for the conservation and management of areas including wilderness, national parks, forests and marine ...

ADSC-Conditioned Medium Mitigates LPS-Induced Acute Lung Injury by Inhibiting Alveolar Macrophage Pyroptosis

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
Acute lung injury (ALI) is characterized by overwhelming pulmonary inflammation and high mortality, yet specific pharmacological interventions remain critically limited.

RORA Regulates Autophagy in Hair Follicle Stem Cells by Upregulating the Expression Level of the Sqstm1 Gene

open access: yesBiomolecules
The hair coat is an adaptive evolutionary trait unique to mammals, aiding them in adapting to complex environmental challenges. Although some of the factors involved in regulating hair follicle development have been characterized, further in-depth ...
