Test of cold denaturation mechanism for proteins as a function of water's structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In a recent paper [PRL 91, 138103 (2003)] a new mechanism to explain the cold denaturation of proteins, based on the loss of local low-density water structure, has been proposed. In the present paper this mechanism is tested by means of full atom numerical simulations.

Warm and Cold Denaturation in the Phase Diagram of a Protein Lattice Model [PDF]

open access: yesEurophys. Lett. 53 (1), pp 93-99 (2001), 2001
Studying the properties of the solvent around proteins, we propose a much more sophisticated model of solvation than temperature-independent pairwise interactions between monomers, as is used commonly in lattice representations. We applied our model of solvation to a 16-monomer chain constrained on a two-dimensional lattice.

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Honey-Induced Protein Stabilization as Studied by Fluorescein Isothiocyanate Fluorescence

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Protein stabilizing potential of honey was studied on a model protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), using extrinsic fluorescence of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) as the probe.

Differences in the pathways of proteins unfolding induced by urea and guanidine hydrochloride: molten globule state and aggregates. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
It was shown that at low concentrations guanidine hydrochloride (GdnHCl) can cause aggregation of proteins in partially folded state and that fluorescent dye 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid (ANS) binds with these aggregates rather than with ...

Temperature-Induced Denaturation of BSA Protein Molecules for Improved Surface Passivation Coatings.

open access: yesACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2018
Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is the most widely used protein for surface passivation applications, although it has relatively weak, nonsticky interactions with hydrophilic surfaces such as silica-based materials.

Evaluation of KRAS and NRAS mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer: an 8‐year study of 10 754 patients in Turkey

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This nationwide study evaluated KRAS and NRAS mutations in 10 754 Turkish patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. The results revealed a mutation frequency of 51.1%, with 46.6% having KRAS mutations, 4.5% having NRAS mutations, and 48.5% being wild‐type for both.

Periodic force induced stabilization or destabilization of the denatured state of a protein [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Chem. Phys. 135, 114101 (2011);, 2012
We have studied the effects of an external sinusoidal force in protein folding kinetics. The externally applied force field acts on the each amino acid residues of polypeptide chains. Our simulation results show that mean protein folding time first increases with driving frequency and then decreases passing through a maximum.

On subcellular distribution of the zinc finger 469 protein (ZNF469) and observed discrepancy in the localization of endogenous and overexpressed ZNF469

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZNF469 regulates the expression of genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins. Endogenous ZNF469 is predominantly cytoplasmic, while in transfected cells, it forms aggregates reminiscent of biomolecular condensates, located mainly in the nucleus. These condensates exhibit overlapping staining with proteasomes and are also associated with the mitotic ...
