Myricetin has been identified as a naturally occurring flavonoid class of polyphenolic compound which shows multiple medical benefits including antidiabetic, anticancerous and antioxidant properties. Here, we report the protective effect of myricetin against in vitro amyloid fibril formation of selected globular proteins.

Entactin-induced inhibition of human amyloid β-protein fibril formation in vitro
Neuroscience Letters, 2001Amyloid beta-protein (Abeta) fibril in senile plaques may possibly be related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Basement membrane (BM) components are localized to the plaques. Entactin binds the plaque associated BM components. We investigated the potential of entactin to prevent Abeta fibril formation.

Copper(II) Inhibits in Vitro Conversion of Prion Protein into Amyloid Fibrils
Biochemistry, 2005In recent studies, the amyloid fibrils produced in vitro from recombinant prion protein encompassing residues 89-230 (rPrP 89-230) were shown to produce transmissible form of prion disease in transgenic mice (Legname et al., (2004) Science 305, 673-676).

The abnormal folding and aggregation of amyloid-β protein (Aβ) is the main reason for the occurrence and development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The discovery of novel inhibitors against Aβ aggregation is still the current research focus. Herein, we report the inhibitory effect of ulvan, an acidic polysaccharide from green algae of the genus Ulva ...

Inhibition of amyloid-β protein fibrillization upon interaction with polyoxometalates nanoclusters
Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2011In this paper, two representative polyoxometalates (POMs), the wheel-shaped Preyssler anion INaP(5)W(30)O(110)](14-) (P5W30) and the Keggin-type anion [H(2)W(12)O(40)](6-) (H2W12) are shown to interact with A beta 1-40 and to inhibit its fibrillization.

Glycoprotein quality control-related proteins effectively inhibit fibrillation of amyloid beta 1–42
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2016Formation of amyloid beta (Aβ) aggregates is a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. Accumulation of Aβ aggregates on the cell surface causes oxidative stress, and ultimately results in cell death. Consequently, inhibition of aggregate formation is predicted to be beneficial.

AbstractAmyloid fibrils are associated with a number of serious and incurable diseases. The understanding of the pathogenic formation of amyloid proteins is progressing. Nonetheless, no treatment is available to deal with amyloid diseases. It is reported here that victoria blue B (VBB) contains an intrinsic marginal inhibitory activity toward protein ...

Research of the inhibition effects on the fibrillation of amyloid proteins
SCIENTIA SINICA Chimica, 2014This review summarized different kinds of inhibitors that affect the aggregation and fibrillation of amyloid proteins. The metal complexes were optimized as potential and effective inhibitors of amyloid proteins. Moreover, the interaction systems of amyloid proteins were also generalized in the aspect of thermodynamics studies.

The micelles (CPMs) have a thermoresponsive surface and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generating core. At 37 °C, CPMs captured Aβ aggregates to inhibit and disaggregate aggregates under white-light irradiation, reducing Aβ-induced cytotoxicity.

alpha-Synuclein (AS) is a main component of Lewy bodies in midbrain dopamine neurons pathologically characteristic of Parkinson's disease. We show that heat shock protein (Hsp) 70 inhibits AS fibril formation via preventing the formation of prefibrillar AS (PreAS), binding with PreAS to impede nuclei formation, and binding with nuclei to retard fibril ...
