Cognitive and Neuroimaging Divergence Between Juvenile and Adult FUS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Fused in sarcoma (FUS)‐associated juvenile ALS (jALS) represents a distinct and aggressive subgroup with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis.

Protein Degradation: An Important Consideration
The growth rates of chicks can be varied by dietary manipulations. The rates of synthesis of protein in selected muscles can be measured by using radioactive amino acids. Measurements are made of expired air, plasma, and muscle tissues. Synthesis rates are most rapid in the young chick and turkey. As the bird ages, synthesis rates and degradation rates

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Translocation arrest by reversible folding of a precursor protein imported into mitochondria [PDF]
Passage of precursor proteins through translocation contact sites of mitochondria was investigated by studying the import of a fusion protein consisting of the NH2-terminal 167 amino acids of yeast cytochrome b2 precursor and the complete mouse ...

Exploitation of an iron transporter for bacterial protein antibiotic import
Significance The outer membrane (OM) excludes antibiotics such as vancomycin that kill gram-positive bacteria, and so is a major contributor to multidrug resistance in gram-negative bacteria. Yet, the OM is readily bypassed by protein bacteriocins, which

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

FusC, a member of the M16 protease family acquired by bacteria for iron piracy against plants.
Iron is essential for life. Accessing iron from the environment can be a limiting factor that determines success in a given environmental niche. For bacteria, access of chelated iron from the environment is often mediated by TonB-dependent transporters ...
