A Spatially Resolved View on the Aging Substantia nigra: An Exploratory Proteomic Study

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Although aging is the most important risk factor for several neurodegenerative diseases, the molecular effects of physiological aging are still understudied. By applying spatially‐resolved proteomic analyses of the human substantia nigra pars compacta, alterations in vesicular trafficking and mitochondrial proteins are observed, as well as reduced ...

Substrate preference of protein kinase B isoforms can vary depending on the cell line.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Many proteins in higher eukaryotes, especially those with crucial functions, have multiple isoforms with redundant roles providing protection against potential functional deficiencies in one isoform.

Osteogenic Effects of Ion Released from Biodegradable Metallic Magnesium and Calcium Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study explores how magnesium–calcium coatings on titanium promote osteogenesis by releasing ions and elevating pH during degradation. Using osteoblast‐like cells, the research demonstrates that both ion release and pH changes contribute to cell proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization, offering new insights into the design of bioactive ...

Versatile Cell Penetrating Peptide for Multimodal CRISPR Gene Editing in Primary Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
CRISPR machinery in diverse molecular formats (DNA, RNA, and ribonucleic protein) is complexed into nanoparticles with the cell‐friendly arginine‐alanine‐leucine‐alanine (RALA) cell‐penetrating peptide. Nanoparticles are delivered to primary mesenchymal stem cells ex vivo or locally in vivo to facilitate multimodal CRISPR gene editing. This RALA‐CRISPR

Utilizing RNA-Seq Data for Cancer Network Inference

open access: yes, 2012
An important challenge in cancer systems biology is to uncover the complex network of interactions between genes (tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes) implicated in cancer. Next generation sequencing provides unparalleled ability to probe the expression

Plasma‐Treated Hydrogel for Combined RONS and Chemotherapy Delivery: A Proof‐of‐Concept In Ovo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores plasma‐treated hydrogels (PTH) as a new way to deliver both reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) directly to tumors. In ovo tests show effects after a single dose, especially in osteosarcoma tumors. Tumor weight decrease, and a resistance‐related protein is reduced.
