The Scrapie Fibril Protein and Its Cellular Isoform

1991
Proteins need help to fold and attain their functional conformation (Ellis and Hemmingsen 1989), and mechanisms have evolved to prevent the accumulation of misfolded protein aggregates within cells (Pelham 1988). These mechanisms fail to prevent the formation of protease-resistant, misfolded forms of PrP (ScPrP) during the development of scrapie and ...

Protein Kinase C (PKC) Isoforms in Drosophila

Journal of Biochemistry, 2002
Six protein kinase C (PKC) genes are present in Drosophila, comprising two classical PKCs (PKC53E and eye-PKC), two novel PKCs (PKC98E and PKCdelta), an atypical PKC (DaPKC), and a PKC-related kinase. Loss of function alleles affecting DaPKC and eye-PKC are available and their mutant phenotypes have been characterized.

Protein Kinase C Isoform Diversity in Preconditioning

Journal of Surgical Research, 1997
Protein kinase C (PKC) appears to be a common intracellular effector and signal collector during cardiac preconditioning; however, it remains unknown whether agonists that activate different PKC isoforms are also linked to select aspects of myocardial protection.
