We have previously demonstrated aggregation of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and β-amyloid (Aβ) to dense plaque-like deposits in the thalamus of rats subjected to transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).

Summary: CCAAT enhancer-binding protein beta (C/EBPβ) is a pioneer transcription factor that specifies cell differentiation. C/EBPβ is intrinsically unstructured, a molecular feature common to many proteins involved in signal processing and epigenetics ...

Virulence- and signaling-associated genes display a preference for long 3′UTRs during rice infection and metabolic stress in the rice blast fungus [PDF]
Generation of mRNA isoforms by alternative polyadenylation (APA) and their involvement in regulation of fungal cellular processes, including virulence, remains elusive.

Efficient trapping of HIV-1 envelope protein by hetero-oligomerization with an N-helix chimera
Background The N-heptad repeat region of the HIV-1 Transmembrane Envelope protein is a trimerization domain that forms part of a "six helix bundle" crucial to Envelope-mediated membrane fusion.

Genome-scale modeling of the protein secretory machinery in yeast. [PDF]
The protein secretory machinery in Eukarya is involved in post-translational modification (PTMs) and sorting of the secretory and many transmembrane proteins.

A mass spectrometry-guided genome mining approach for natural product peptidogenomics. [PDF]
Peptide natural products show broad biological properties and are commonly produced by orthogonal ribosomal and nonribosomal pathways in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

Molecular and antigenic characterization of Trypanosoma cruzi TolT proteins [PDF]
Background: TolT was originally described as a Trypanosoma cruzi molecule that accumulated on the trypomastigote flagellum bearing similarity to bacterial TolA colicins receptors.

Partial cDNAs coding for human protein S were isolated from a pUC9 human liver cDNA library. Together, the overlapping clones span a (partial) 5′‐non‐coding region, and the complete protein S coding and 3′‐untranslated regions. The derived amino acid sequence deviates at five positions from two previously reported protein S sequences.

Positional proteomics reveals differences in N-terminal proteoform stability [PDF]
To understand the impact of alternative translation initiation on a proteome, we performed a proteome-wide study on protein turnover using positional proteomics and ribosome profiling to distinguish between N-terminal proteoforms of individual genes.

The point-mutated active form of ras p21 is known to activate mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in intact mammalian cells and Xenopus oocytes, although the direct target molecule of ras p21 remains to be identified.
