Lysyl oxidase (LOX)‐mediated remodeling of the extracellular matrix
The lysyl oxidase (LOX) family of enzymes drives extracellular matrix remodeling by oxidizing collagen, elastin, and fibronectin, promoting covalent cross‐link formation. This activity regulates tissue architecture and mechanical properties, while its dysregulation contributes to fibrosis, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, connective tissue disorders ...

DEFICIENCY OF PROTEIN S AND FACTOR V PRESENTING AS ISCHEMIC STROKE IN A 14 YEARS OLD BOY
A 14 year old nondiabetic, nonhypertensive boy was admittedwith left sided hemiparesis. He has been diagnosed with ischemic stroke due to combined deficiency of protein S and factor V.Inherited thrombophiliadue to deficiencies of natural anticoagulants (

Protein C and Protein S Deficiencies
Protein C and protein S are vitamin K-dependent protein with natural anticoagulant properties that play a major role in the coagulation pathway. Protein C is activated by the thrombin/thrombomodulin complex. Activated protein C cleaves membrane-bound active factors V and VIII and inactivates them.

Recurrent blocked duct(s) in a mother with immunoglobulin A deficiency [PDF]
Secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) is the dominant immunoglobulin in human milk, and apart from the obvious contribution it makes towards the protection of the infant, sIgA may also form an important part of the defense of the mammary gland.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Diagnosing protein S deficiency − Navigating challenges
Describe challenges in diagnosing protein S deficiency.A women in her late 20 s and pregnant in third trimester (G1P0) suffered non-hemorrhagic adrenal infarction. Thrombophilia testing was performed five months post-partum and included analyses for the factor V Leiden (FVL; NM_000130:c.1601G > A; rs6025) and prothrombin c.20210G > A (NM_000506:c.*97G >

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
