Analysis of similarity/dissimilarity of protein sequences

Proteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, 2008
AbstractOn the basis of a selected pair of physicochemical properties of amino acids, we introduce a dynamic 2D graphical representation of protein sequences. Then, we introduce and compare two numerical characterizations of protein graphs as descriptors to analyze the nine ND5 proteins. The approach is simple, convenient, and fast.

Applicability of the alkylation chemistry for chemical C-terminal protein sequence analysis.

Analytical Chemistry, 2000
We have evaluated the alkylation chemistry first described some years ago by Boyd et al. which is now routinely applied in a commercial instrument. We have found that the low repetitive yields observed during these analyses are due to the formation of a ...

Sequence Analysis by Numbers: Proteins

Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 1996
Abstract As a number code to the protein sequence language, the amino acid numbers (z) derived previously (1, 25, 45, and 17 prime numbers smaller than 64) are used to characterize oligopeptide motifs. The grammatical rule of this language is expressed with two theorems governing the collective properties of oligopeptides.

Compact Protein Sequencer for the C-Terminal Sequence Analysis of Peptides and Proteins

Analytical Biochemistry, 1993
We describe the construction of a compact protein sequencer designed specifically for the C-terminal sequence analysis of peptides and proteins. This sequencer has a vertical flow path and is equipped with a continuous flow reactor (CFR). The flow paths for the various reagents and solvents have been minimized.

Sequence analysis of membrane proteins

1986
The primary structures of proteins can be determined by two distinct methods: directly by sequence analysis of the protein or indirectly by DNA sequence analysis of the corresponding gene or c-DNA. The direct protein sequence analysis methods are strongly influenced by the nature of the protein.

Chemical methods of protein sequence analysis

Journal of Chromatography A, 1995
Chemical methods of protein sequence determination are reviewed with particular emphasis on methodology for increasing the sensitivity of amino-terminal sequence analysis and on progress toward the development of an automated procedure for sequential degradation from the carboxy-terminus.

Analysis of sequence repeats of proteins in the PDB

Computational Biology and Chemistry, 2013
Internal repeats in protein sequences play a significant role in the evolution of protein structure and function. Applications of different bioinformatics tools help in the identification and characterization of these repeats. In the present study, we analyzed sequence repeats in a non-redundant set of proteins available in the Protein Data Bank (PDB).

Adsorptive Biphasic Column Technology for Protein Sequence Analysis and Protein Chemical Modification

, 1994
The Hewlett-Packard adsorptive, biphasic column technology serves as the basis for the development of exceedingly efficient automated N-terminal protein sequence analysis and automated protein chemical modifications.

Solid-phase protein sequence analysis

Nature, 1990
The solutions to many protein analytical problems require flexible chemistries at a high sensitivity. Solid-phase sequence analysis is one way to eliminate limitations inherent in current methods.

Spectral Analysis of Protein Sequences

2006
Analysis of protein sequences can avoid many problems inherently existing in the study of nucleotide sequences given the knowledge that DNA sequences contain all the information for regulating protein expression. This paper presents a spectral approach for calculating the similarity of protein sequences, which can be useful for the inferences of ...
