Re-authorization of gelatin and collagen of ruminant origin in non-ruminant feed: a new analytical challenge for the control of the feed ban

open access: yesBiotechnologie, Agronomie, Société et Environnement, 2022
Description of the subject. A recent revision of the feed ban provisions authorizes the use of ruminant collagen and gelatin in feed for non-ruminant farmed animals.

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

Exploring Protein Sequence Space Using Computationally Directed Recombination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Evolution has provided us with many protein sequences. However, these sequences represent a very small fraction of the possible sequences. In the laboratory, scientists have explored areas of sequence space not represented by natural proteins both to ...

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Computational Protein Design Force Field Optimization: A Negative Design Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
An accurate force field is essential to computational protein design and protein folding studies. Proper force field tuning is problematic, however, due in part to the incomplete modeling of the unfolded state.

The evaluation of metabolizable energy in traditional Korean food for protein sources

open access: yesJournal of Ethnic Foods, 2015
Background: The validity of energy data in the composition table of Korean food has been in question due to possible differences in its chemical composition from that of western food.

Structures of mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase reveal carrier‐domain translocation between catalytic sites

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

Using Artemia Parthenogenetica Powder in Broiler Diets on Some Physiological and Oxidation Indicators

open access: yesمجلة ديالى للعلوم الزراعية
This study aimed to partial replacement of artemia powder with different protein concentrate levels in broiler diets on selected physiological and oxidation indicators. Two hundred and forty, one-day-old Ross 308 chicks were distributed to four levels of
