The subcellular distribution of phosphorylated Y‐box‐binding protein‐1 at S102 in colorectal cancer patients, stratified by KRAS mutational status and clinicopathological features

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies nuclear YB‐1 S102 phosphorylation as a marker associated with KRAS and FBXW7 mutations in colorectal cancer. Mutated KRAS correlates specifically with nuclear, not cytoplasmic, S102 YB‐1. These findings provide the first ex vivo evidence of this link in CRC and suggest future studies should assess the prognostic and therapeutic ...

Biochemical and molecular studies of NMDA receptor subunits NR1/2A/2B in hippocampal subregions throughout progression of Alzheimer's disease pathology

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2004
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by loss of specific cell populations within selective subregions of the hippocampus. Excitotoxicity, mediated via ionotropic glutamate receptors, may play a crucial role in this selective neuronal vulnerability ...

Diversity of heterotrimeric G-protein γ subunits in plants

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2012
Background Heterotrimeric G-proteins, consisting of three subunits Gα, Gβ and Gγ are present in most eukaryotes and mediate signaling in numerous biological processes.

Endoglin mediates the tumor‐ and metastasis‐promoting traits of stromal myofibroblasts in human breast carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Carcinoma‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumors influence cancer progression. We identified endoglin (ENG) as a key factor in TGF‐β signaling in myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs), linked to poor breast cancer outcomes. Inhibiting ENG on myCAFs suppressed the TGF‐β‐Smad2/3 pathway, reducing primary tumor growth and metastasis.

The role of packaging sites in efficient and specific virus assembly

open access: yes, 2015
During the lifecycle of many single-stranded RNA viruses, including many human pathogens, a protein shell called the capsid spontaneously assembles around the viral genome. Understanding the mechanisms by which capsid proteins selectively assemble around

The G Protein Subunit Gene Families

open access: yesGenomics, 1999
t i t u p g s t ( uch as neurotransmitters, hormones, and light. The vast ajority of such receptors are coupled to G proteins, which ransduce the signal to effectors. G proteins are heterotrimrs made up of an a, a b, and a g subunit (29). The G protein ubunits are now known to be encoded by families of related enes in mammalian cells (74). The sizes of
