Electrochemical Degradation of Perfluoroalkyl Sulfonates via Sulfonate to Carboxylate Conversion

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 7, 9 February 2026.
We demonstrate a novel approach for the degradation of perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) involving a controlled, electromediated, sulfonate‐to‐carboxylate headgroup conversion. We apply this method to shorter chain PFSAs and provide key mechanistic insights that contribute to a broader understanding of the molecular pathways underlying pollutant ...

The Formation of Covalent Linkages in Lignocellulosic Biomass via the Oxocarbenium Intermediate

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 4, 25 February 2026.
Density functional theory models show that the hydrated and acidic hemicellulose matrix in lignocellulosic biomass can generate oxocarbenium ions. These reactive intermediates can participate in the stable formation of glycosidic lignin‐carbohydrate covalent linkages, promoting recalcitrance in plant biomass.

An Unorthodox Enolate–Triggered Radical Relay Directs the Chemo Upgrading of Levulinic Acid Into Citramalic Acid

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 4, 25 February 2026.
Unorthodox Thermodynamic Enolate Coupled with a Radical Pathway A transition‐metal‐free oxidation of biomass‐derived levulinic acid to citramalic acid is achieved through an unorthodox enolate in combination with a radical pathway using potassium tert‐butoxide (KOtBu) and molecular oxygen (O2).

Harnessing Carbenoid Reactivity From Imidazoles and Oxiranes

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 4, 17 February 2026.
The combination of azole compounds and oxiranes exhibits carbenoid reactivity at elevated temperatures, as demonstrated by the successful benzoin condensation of aromatic aldehydes. Using this catalytic system to polymerize bifunctional aldehyde/oxirane monomers yields thermosets with glass transition temperatures above 100°C.

Dual‐State Photophysical Modulation via Bifurcated Hydrogen Bonding in a U‐Shaped Dipyridophenazine‐Cored Donor‐π‐Acceptor‐π‐Donor Fluorophore

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 7, 16 February 2026.
A donor–π–acceptor–π–donor (D–π–A–π–D) fluorophore bearing a U‐shaped dipyridophenazine core forms bifurcated hydrogen bonds with neutral donors such as sulfonamides or water. This interaction modulates both ground and excited states, enabling red‐shifted emission and enhanced photoluminescence in solution and solid state.
