Salicylaldimine Ruthenium Alkylidene Complexes: Metathesis Catalysts Tuned for Protic Solvents [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis & Catalysis, 2007
AbstractTuning the electronic and steric environment of olefin metathesis catalysts with specialized ligands can adapt them to broader applications, including metathesis in aqueous solvents. Bidentate salicylaldimine ligands are known to stabilize ruthenium alkylidene complexes, as well as allow ring‐closing metathesis in protic media.

Epimerization of ergot alkaloids in feed

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Chronic intake of cereals contaminated with ergot alkaloids can cause ergotism and result in the loss of toes and fingers or even death. Today, due to common risk management practices, ergotism is rare as a human disease but remains a problem in ...

Solvent Effect on Product Distribution in the Aerobic Autoxidation of 2-Ethylhexanal: Critical Role of Polarity

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2022
In the aerobic oxidation of aldehydes to acids, how the solvent affect the reaction remains unclear. Herein, the solvent effect in the oxidation of 2-ethylhexanal (2-ETH) to 2-ethylhexanoic acid (2-ETA) was systematically investigated.

On the properties of a single OPLS-UA model curcumin molecule in water, methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide. Molecular dynamics computer simulation results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The properties of model solutions consisting of a solute --- single curcumin molecule in water, methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide solvents have been studied using molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations in the isobaric-isothermal ensemble.

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction: Metal Integration Principles, Strategies and Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with metals have been recognized as versatile platforms for photocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2PRR). Herein, an overview of metal integration strategies for COFs is systematically summarized. Regulatory mechanisms and structure–activity relationships between metal integration and COF‐based CO2PRR are emphasized.

The Far Side of Carboranes: Anticancer Active Monocations and Ambiently Stable Dications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This work describes the synthesis of bench‐stable dicationic carboranes. Their enhanced electrophilicity is documented by opening the clusters with weak nucleophiles or dihydrogen. The surprising stability of positively charged carboranes in water enabled a study of their in vitro antiproliferative activity, which surpassed the effects of doxorubicin ...

Establishing a Model Precursor System: Over a Decade of Research on Carbon Dots from the Citric Acid‐Urea System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The citric acid/urea (CA‐Urea) precursor system offers a versatile, scalable route to carbon dots with tunable luminescence and multifunctionality. Mechanistic insights into precursor chemistry and reaction parameters have enabled doping, surface modification, and hybridization strategies, yielding CDs for luminescent devices, sensing, catalysis ...

Porous Phenazine‐bridged Tetraoxa[8]Circulenes for Selective Gold Recovery and Heterogeneous Catalysis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Gold recycling from electronic waste using porous materials is an emerging concept to reduce the environmental impact of gold mining. In this work, we report the synthesis of a highly porous phenazine‐derived tetraoxa[8]circulene polymer and its utilization in gold capture and heterogeneous catalysis.

DNA Oxidation Photoinduced by Norharmane Rhenium(I) Polypyridyl Complexes: Effect of the Bidentate N,N′-Ligands on the Damage Profile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
ReI-polypyridyl complexes have interesting and distinctive photochemical and photosensitizing properties. This work describes the capability to induce (or photoinduce) DNA damage of three ReI-complexes with a naturally occurring alkaloid called ...

Structural and Chemical Engineering of Sub‐Nanochannel Membranes Toward Ion Selectivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent advances in structural and chemical engineering of sub‐nanochannels for ion selectivity. We first introduce fundamental ion transport mechanisms within sub‐nanochannels, followed by strategies to tune pore size, geometry, and surface functionalities, categorized into charge‐based, ion‐recognition, hydrophilic bonding, and ...
