Dosimetric evaluation of magnetic resonance imaging based synthetic computed tomography for head and neck photon and proton therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Background Accurate target delineation is essential for precise delivery of proton therapy. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)‐only radiotherapy workflow may improve delineations, and thus improve proton therapy, but requires reliable synthetic computed tomography (sCT) for accurate dose calculations.

Commissioning of a gantry‐mounted synchrocyclotron for preclinical FLASH studies utilizing spread‐out Bragg peaks

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Background Preclinical studies demonstrate the benefits of ultra‐high dose‐rate (FLASH) radiation, reducing normal tissue toxicity while maintaining tumoricidal effects. Proton FLASH (pFLASH) studies typically use transmission beams, missing the normal tissue‐sparing advantage of the spread‐out Bragg peak (SOBP).
