Respiratory-gated proton beam therapy for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma without fiducial markers

open access: yesRadiation Oncology
Background Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a challenging primary liver cancer with a poor prognosis, especially in unresectable cases. Traditional palliative irradiation is limited in reducing liver doses.

Comparison of pencil beam and Monte Carlo calculations with ion chamber array measurements for patient-specific quality assurance

open access: yesRadiation Medicine and Protection, 2022
Objective: To determine under what conditions and criteria comparisons between calculations made with the current clinical treatment planning system (Syngo) and an in-house built TPS (TIMPS) would allow skipping of in-beam portal-specific measurements ...

Applications of 10 MeV Photons and 100 MeV Protons in Radiotherapy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Geant4 software is used to study 10 MeV photon beams and 100 MeV proton beams. Conclusions are drawn as to the advantages and disadvantages of each therapy, with some additional commentary on the secondary effects of radiation damage in treatment.

Non‐Enzymatic Destruction of the Extracellular Matrix for Activatable Orthotopic Tumor Treatment and Enhanced Drug Penetration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Supramolecular biomimetic nanoaggregates (HFCu NAs), constructed with fluorinated histidine and copper ions via metal coordination and aromatic packing, exhibit enhanced reactive oxygen species (ROS)generation at tumor sites, which results in stepwise collapse of the extracellular matrix (ECM), affording tumor microenvironment responsive “turn‐on” 19F ...

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

160 MeV laser-accelerated protons from CH2 nano-targets for proton cancer therapy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Proton (and ion) cancer therapy has proven to be an extremely effective even supe-rior method of treatment for some tumors 1-4. A major problem, however, lies in the cost of the particle accelerator facilities; high procurement costs severely limit the availability of ion radiation therapy, with only ~26 centers worldwide.

Physics-related epistemic uncertainties in proton depth dose simulation

open access: yes, 2010
A set of physics models and parameters pertaining to the simulation of proton energy deposition in matter are evaluated in the energy range up to approximately 65 MeV, based on their implementations in the Geant4 toolkit.

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...
