Effect of PPO-Inhibiting Herbicides on the Growth and Sex Ratio of a Dioecious Weed Species Amaranthus palmeri (Palmer Amaranth)

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
Amaranthus palmeri S. Watson (Palmer amaranth) is a fast-growing, dioecious, highly competitive agricultural weed species, which is spreading across the US Midwest. Population sex ratios are an important consideration in the management of A.

Use of Di- and Tripropionate substrate analogs to probe the active site of human recombinant coproporphyrinogen oxidase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Defects in the enzyme coproporphyrinogen oxidase result in accumulation of porphyrins which may affect the severity of a subset of porphyrias. Thus evaluation of this enzyme for substrate selectivity is of value.

Porphyrin Accumulation and Export by Isolated Barley (Hordeum vulgare) Plastids (Effect of Diphenyl Ether Herbicides) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
We have investigated the formation of porphyrin intermediates by isolated barley (Hordeum vulgare) plastids incubated for 40 min with the porphyrin precursor 5-aminolevulinate and in the presence and absence of a diphenylether herbicide that blocks ...

Toxoplasma gondii requires its plant-like heme biosynthesis pathway for infection.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2020
Heme, an iron-containing organic ring, is essential for virtually all living organisms by serving as a prosthetic group in proteins that function in diverse cellular activities ranging from diatomic gas transport and sensing, to mitochondrial respiration,

Altered gene expression by sedaxane increases PSII efficiency, photosynthesis and growth and improves tolerance to drought in wheat seedlings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicides have been shown to increase PSII efficiency and photosynthesis under drought stress in the absence of disease to enhance the biomass and yield of winter wheat.

Protoporphyrinogen Destruction by Plant Extracts and Correlation with Tolerance to Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase-Inhibiting Herbicides

open access: yesPesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 1996
Herbicidal damage by photobleaching diphenylether herbicides is the indirect result of inhibition of an enzyme in chlorophyll biosynthesis. The substrate of the inhibited enzyme, protoporphyrinogen, accumulates and is subsequently converted to protoporphyrin, a potent photoactive compound which causes light-dependent membrane damage.

Molecular modeling and virtual screening for computer-aided design of plant protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase (PPO) inhibitors

open access: yesScientific African
Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase IX (PPO) is a key target for agricultural herbicide design. In this study, we propose novel virtual PPO inhibitors using computer-aided 3D-QSAR combinatorial molecular design.
