Tropical farmers try to adapt calf‐rearing systems to temperate dairy industry standards. Calves in tick‐infested areas develop stronger immunity to TBD under controlled exposure to ticks. Early tick exposure promotes sustainable management, balancing tick infestation and developing TBD immunity.

Tick infestation affected 41.5% of cattle in Tigray, with Rhipicephalus species predominating. Infestation was strongly associated with poor housing, poor body condition and management practices, whereas limited awareness of tick‐borne diseases highlights the need for targeted control strategies informed by species‐specific attachment‐site preferences.
