Longitudinal sequencing of HIV-1 infected patients with low-level viremia for years while on ART shows no indications for genetic evolution of the virus [PDF]
HIV-infected patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) may present low-level viremia (LLV) above the detection level of current viral load assays.

From Genomic and Epigenomic Maps to Medicines in Adult T‐Cell Leukemia/Lymphoma
ABSTRACT Adult T‐cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) is an aggressive and refractory hematologic malignancy that is caused by human T‐cell leukemia virus type‐1 (HTLV‐1) retrovirus. ATL results from a combination of viral latency and the accumulation of abnormalities throughout the genome, epigenome, transcriptome, and signaling pathways.

HERV-K(HML-2), the youngest clade of human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs), includes many intact or nearly intact proviruses, but no replication competent HML-2 proviruses have been identified in humans.

Provirus activation plus CD59 blockage triggers antibody-dependent complement-mediated lysis of latently HIV-1-infected cells [PDF]
Latently HIV-1-infected cells are recognized as the last barrier toward viral eradication and cure. To purge these cells, we combined a provirus stimulant with a blocker of human CD59, a key member of the regulators of complement activation, to trigger ...

Designing lentiviral gene vectors [PDF]
Lentiviral gene vectors are an important tool in gene therapy and basic biomedical research. They are transducing viral particles, normally replication defective, which are generated using the packaging machinery of lentiviruses.

Abstract Adult T‐cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a distinct type of peripheral T‐cell lymphoma (PTCL) driven by human T‐lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV‐1)–infected T cells, but diagnosis can be confounded by histological overlap with non‐ATLL PTCL. While molecular testing is the diagnostic gold standard in endemic areas, HTLV‐1/2 serology is often ...

Defective provirus genomes of human T-cell leukemia virus type I are frequently detected in lymphocytes from infected individuals and in infected cell lines. One type of defective provirus contains internal deletions spanning gag, pol, and env genes but retains portions of open reading frames for trans-regulatory proteins.

Protein expression from unintegrated HIV-1 DNA introduces bias in primary in vitro post-integration latency models [PDF]
To understand the persistence of latently HIV-1 infected cells in virally suppressed infected patients, a number of in vitro models of HIV latency have been developed.

Novel viral immune checkpoint K‐TM subunit is aberrantly expressed in CD8+ T cells and enriched in sera of cancer patients, inducing CD8+ T cell anergy and eliciting potent tumor immune escape in mouse model. Mechanistically, K‐TM directly targets and induces the phosphorylation of CD3ε receptor.

Modulation of human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) transcription during persistent and de novo HIV-1 infection [PDF]
Background: The human genome contains multiple LTR elements including human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) that together account for approximately 8–9% of the genomic DNA.
