ADAM17 substrate release in proximal tubule drives kidney fibrosis
Kidney fibrosis following kidney injury is an unresolved health problem and causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In a study into its molecular mechanism, we identified essential causative features.

PSMA8‐Containing 20S Proteasome Regulates Spermiogenesis and Male Fertility
PSMA8 assembles s20S proteasome that degrades specific substrates in elongating spermatids. Degradation of s20S‐substrates activates translation of FXR1‐target mRNAs, which are essential for mitochondrial sheath formation and sperm morphogenesis.

Acute metabolic acidosis in a GLUT2-deficient patient with Fanconi-Bickel syndrome: new pathophysiology insights [PDF]
Fanconi-Bickel syndrome is a rare autosomal-recessive disorder caused by mutations in the SLC2A2 gene coding for the glucose transporter protein 2 (GLUT2).

The multifaceted role of kidney tubule mitochondrial dysfunction in kidney disease development
More than 800 million people suffer from kidney disease. Genetic studies, and follow-up animal model and cell biological experiments indicate the key role of proximal tubule metabolism.

Nanoscale Spatial Organization of ARC High‐ and Low‐Order Assemblies at Excitatory Synapses
ARC (Activity‐Regulated Cytoskeleton‐Associated protein) mediates synaptic plasticity by forming nanoscale assemblies in neurons. Using super‐resolution microscopy and time‐resolved anisotropy with targeted tagging, the study reveals low‐order ARC assemblies at synapses colocalizing with AMPARs, semi‐circular structures at endocytic zones, and 60–80 nm

TGF-beta 1-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and therapeutic intervention in diabetic nephropathy [PDF]
Background/Aims: Epithelial-to-mesenchymal cell transformation (EMT) is the trans-differentiation of tubular epithelial cells into myofibroblasts, an event underlying progressive chronic kidney disease in diabetes, resulting in fibrosis.

Transcriptional profiling of the zebrafish proximal tubule [PDF]
The hepatocyte nuclear factor-1β (Hnf1b) transcription factor is a key regulator of kidney tubule formation and is associated with a syndrome of renal cysts and early onset diabetes. To further our understanding of Hnf1b in the developing zebrafish kidney, we performed RNA sequencing analysis of proximal tubules from hnf1b-deficient larvae.

A neutrophil‐mediated dual‐targeting liposome (NKN‐LNP) is developed to treat renal ischemia–reperfusion injury. The system enables spatiotemporally controlled delivery of NMN to injured tubules via MMP‐2/9 activation and KIM1 recognition, restoring mitochondrial function through NAD+‐SIRT3 signaling and preventing the transition from acute kidney ...

Immunohistochemical expression of intrarenal renin angiotensin system components in response to tempol in rats fed a high salt diet [PDF]
AIM:To determine the effect of tempol in normal rats fed high salt on arterial pressure and the balance between antagonist components of the renal renin-angiotensin system.METHODS:Sprague-Dawley rats were fed with 8% NaCl high-salt (HS) or 0.4% NaCl ...

NSUN5 is downregulated in hyperuricaemic nephropathy. Overexpression of NSUN5 enhances the stability of SCD1 mRNA through the m5C reader YBX2, ultimately inhibiting ferroptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells. Additionally, this axis suppresses the NF‐κB signaling pathway to alleviate inflammation and upregulates ABCG2 to promote uric acid excretion,
