Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Spatial Patterns of Crime in Israel: Investigating the Effects of Inter-urban Inequality and Proximity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Many crimes in Israel, specifically property-related, are perpetrated by those who live outside localities where the crime is committed. As a result, crime rates are strongly affected by settlement patterns: Affluent localities surrounded by poor towns ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Landslide susceptibility mapping using geospatial, analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and binary logistic regression (BLR) techniques – A study of Wadi Habban Basin, Shabwah, Yemen

open access: yesResults in Earth Sciences
Wadi Habban Basin is continuously prone to numerous geological hazards, such as landslides. This study aims to generate landslide susceptibility maps by integrating of remote sensing, Geographic-Information-System (GIS) techniques, Analytical-Hierarchy ...

Biodiversity and conservation value of an Atlantic central African forest: the Ngovayang Massif (Cameroon) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A total of 7967 individuals with dbh ≥ 10 cm were recorded, belonging to 583 species, 267 genera and 71 families. The mean number of stems was 532 ± 75 stems ha-1. The mean Fisher's alpha index was 42.4 ± 6.5.

Iterative Proximal-Minimization for Computing Saddle Points with Fixed Index

open access: yesCoRR
Computing saddle points with a prescribed Morse index on potential energy surfaces is crucial for characterizing transition states for nosie-induced rare transition events in physics and chemistry. Many numerical algorithms for this type of saddle points are based on the eigenvector-following idea and can be cast as an iterative minimization ...

Related variety and regional growth in Spain [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates whether related variety, among other types of spatial externalities, affected regional growth in Spain at the NUTS 3 level during the period 1995-2007.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...
