Tropical Montane Cloud Forests Have High Resilience to Five Years of Severe Soil Drought

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 1, January 2026.
A 5‐year throughfall exclusion experiment in a Peruvian tropical montane cloud forest reduced soil moisture by 69%, leading to lower photosynthetic inputs and autotrophic respiration but maintaining net primary productivity and carbon sink capacity. Trees responded through metabolic downregulation, reduced fruit production, increased wood density, and ...

A trait‐based framework to understand and predict the response of wild bee functional groups to anthropogenic landscapes

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 1, Page 56-71, January 2026.
Wild bee functional groups consist of species that are grouped together based on their similarity in multiple nesting and foraging traits. These functional groups have their own specific association with suitable habitats and urban or agricultural landscapes.

Photoperiod–Temperature Interactions in a Changing Climate: A Review of Plant Phenological Responses

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Climate change is reshaping plant phenology and species distributions, especially in temperate and boreal ecosystems, where advances in spring events have already extended the growing season. While temperature has been the primary focus of many studies, the role of photoperiod—a stable, latitude‐dependent cue—remains underexplored.

Natural variations in MdBPM2/MdRGLG3‐MdNAC83 network controlling the quantitative segregation of apple fruit storability

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 1, Page 169-190, January 2026.
During postharvest cold storage of apples, the NAC transcription factor MdNAC83 binds to the promoters and activates the expression of downstream genes and is regulated by E3 ligases, which promote its ubiquitination and degradation. Genetic variants in MdNAC83 and its downstream genes form a network to regulate apple fruit storability.
