Abstract BACKGROUND. Several studies have recently reported on the occurrence of a JAK2 V617F mutation in myeloid cells from the majority of patients with polycythemia vera (PV). The clinical relevance of this novel observation is currently under study.

PRV-1 mRNA expression and other molecular markers in polycythemia rubra vera.
Current hematology reports, 2003During the past 4 years, the first molecular markers for polycythemia vera (PV) have been described. These markers include decreased expression of the thrombopoietin receptor c-Mpl, increased expression of the surface receptor polycythemia rubra vera-I, and insulin-like growth factor-I hypersensitivity.

While the pathognomonic mutation causing chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), the “Philadelphia chromosome”, is well characterized, and the detection of the bcr/abl fusion transcript, allows a precise, molecular diagnosis of CML, to date there is no characteristic molecular marker for the diagnosis of polycythemia vera (PV).

Polycythaemia vera (PV) is closely associated with both an acquired activating mutation of the JAK2 tyrosine kinase (JAK2(V617F)) in granulocyte-derived DNA and increased granulocyte polycythaemia rubra vera-1 (PRV-1) expression. In order to explore the correlation between these two biological markers and compare their diagnostic utility, mutation ...
