Genes for carbon metabolism and the ToxA virulence factor in Pseudomonas aeruginosa are regulated through molecular interactions of PtxR and PtxS.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Homologs of the transcriptional regulator PtxS are omnipresent in Pseudomonas, whereas PtxR homologues are exclusively found in human pathogenic Pseudomonas species.

A 3D Atlas of Visceral and Somatic Pelvic Motor Neurons in Whole Mounts of Female and Male Rat Spinal Cords

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 533, Issue 11, November 2025.
Visceral and somatic motor neurons (MNs) of the lumbosacral (L6–S1) spinal cord control the genitourinary organs and pelvic striated muscles. We produced a three‐dimensional (3D) MN atlas of the lumbosacral spinal cord using whole‐mount immunostaining, tissue clearing, and advanced 3D microscopy in male and female rats. In so doing, we identified novel

Bacteria in cancer therapy: a novel experimental strategy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Resistance to conventional anticancer therapies in patients with advanced solid tumors has prompted the need of alternative cancer therapies. Moreover, the success of novel cancer therapies depends on their selectivity for cancer cells with limited ...

Impact of NLRP1 Met1154Val and IL1B variants on gestational malaria: an unexplored role of NLRP1 in inflammasome activation by Plasmodium spp.

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 267, Issue 3, Page 304-314, November 2025.
Abstract We hypothesized that variants in inflammasome‐related genes could influence susceptibility to gestational malaria (GM). To test this, we conducted an association study in a cohort of pregnant women from a malaria‐endemic region in northern Brazil, assessing whether specific functional single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in inflammasome genes ...

Immunotoxins Targeting B cell Malignancy—Progress and Problems With Immunogenicity

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2018
Few immunotoxins or targeted toxins have become mainline cancer therapies. Still immunotoxins continue to be of major interest and subject of research and development as alternative therapies for drug resistant cancer. A major matter of concern continues

Attenuated Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: A Promising Cell Factory for Rhamnolipid Production

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 11, November 2025.
PGN strains are generated by the deletion of virulence factor genes. The metabolic pathways and regulatory frameworks that lead to high‐efficiency production of rhamnolipids in P. aeruginosa are preserved in these strains. Therefore, PGN strains are promising bio‐safe cell factories for the industrial production of rhamnolipids.

A bacterial exotoxin-triggered plant immune response restricts pathogen growth

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: For optimal growth and development, hosts must promote healthy symbiotic interactions while restricting pathogens. To ask whether hosts can distinguish phylogenetically similar pathogens and beneficial bacteria, we used two closely related plant

Quorum sensing is not required for twitching motility in Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
It has been reported that mutations in the quorum-sensing genes lasI and rhlI in Pseudomonas aeruginosa result in, among many other things, loss of twitching motility (A. Glessner, R. S. Smith, B. H. Iglewski, and J. B. Robinson, J. Bacteriol.

Peritoneal Immunosurgery: Immunotherapy Augmented Surgery for the Treatment of Peritoneal Cancers

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, Volume 132, Issue 5, Page 789-809, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Peritoneal malignancy often indicates disruptions in multiple physiological systems resulting from widespread cancer. The heterogenous origin and dynamic nature of peritoneal cancer make it difficult to treat with standard approaches that fit into guidelines.

Nanoparticle‐Based Tetracycline Delivery Systems: Advancing Therapeutic Effectiveness and Tackling Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesParticle &Particle Systems Characterization, Volume 42, Issue 10, October 2025.
This review explores improved tetracycline (TCN) delivery via polymer‐based nanocarriers to enhance solubility, stability, and targeted release. It also covers stimuli‐responsive systems, triggered by pH, enzymes, or reactive oxygen species (ROS), and co‐delivery approaches that increase therapeutic efficacy in cancer and inflammatory diseases ...
