Otogenic Sigmoid Sinus Thrombosis Complicated by Cerebellar Abscess and Hydrocephalus: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man developed otogenic sigmoid sinus thrombosis with cerebellar abscess, hydrocephalus, and recurrent posterior fossa infection. Staged neurosurgical drainage and canal‐wall‐down mastoidectomy achieved source control. Cultures were negative. Anticoagulant exposure was perioperative/early postoperative.

Cholecystoduodenal Fistula, Gallstone Ileus, and Choledocholithiasis: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Prompt diagnosis using CT is critical in gallstone ileus, as symptoms are often nonspecific. A combined surgical approach—comprising enterolithotomy, cholecystectomy, and fistula repair—effectively addresses both the obstruction and its underlying source, achieving favorable outcomes even in complex presentations.

Natural Preservation of Refrigerated Chicken Meat Using Asphodelus microcarpus Root Extract With Machine‐Learning‐Based Shelf‐Life Prediction

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 5, October 2026.
Multifunctional Preservation & AI Prediction of Chicken Shelf Life. ABSTRACT The demand for natural and multifunctional food preservatives has increased due to growing concerns about the safety and sustainability of synthetic additives. In this study, the ethyl acetate extract of Asphodelus microcarpus roots (AmEA) was evaluated as a preservative ...

Meat Freshness Monitoring in the Modern Supply Chain: Analytical Advances, Smart Packaging, and Digital Integration

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Meat freshness monitoring is illustrated as an integrated system that links spoilage mechanisms to advanced detection and digital technologies. Microbial activity, enzymatic degradation, and chemical oxidation generate measurable changes in meat quality.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns and Proportion of Multidrug‐Resistant Uropathogens in a Remote Tertiary Hospital in Bhutan: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims A surge in antimicrobial resistance and multidrug‐resistant organisms among uropathogens have complicated its management over time. It is imperative to examine epidemiology and local antimicrobial susceptibility patterns to promote evidence‐based management.

Cytomegalovirus in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid: A Predictor of Outcome in Immunocompromised Patients

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a prevalent herpesvirus that remains typically asymptomatic in immunocompetent individuals but can cause severe, potentially life‐threatening disease in immunocompromised patients. This study assessed the impact of CMV‐associated lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs), diagnosed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR ...

Pulmonary Herpes Simplex Virus Reactivation in Invasively Mechanically Ventilated Patients With COVID‐19 in Intensive Care Unit

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Patients in intensive care units (ICU) under mechanical ventilation, particularly those with SARS‐CoV‐2 infection, are highly susceptible to Herpes simplex virus (HSV) reactivation. Given the lack of data on the SARS‐CoV‐2 Omicron and Delta variants, this study aimed to assess the prevalence of pulmonary HSV reactivation in mechanically ...

Evaluation of Probiotic Properties and Antimicrobial Substances Produced by Five Lactic Acid Bacteria Against Foodborne and Spoilage Pathogens

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The rise of multidrug‐resistant (MDR) pathogens presents a major challenge to food safety, particularly in preservation approaches. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) gain probiotic recognition by effectively controlling MDR pathogens using antimicrobial substances (AMSs) and bacteriocin‐like inhibitory substances (BLISs).
