Photochemotherapy Treatment for Psoriasis
Physical Therapy, 1981Psoriasis is a disease resulting from accelerated replication and abnormal maturation of epidermal cells.1 It has a 1 to 2 percent prevalence in the United States.1 Currently, therapy is merely suppressive. Conventional treatment for psoriasis is the Goeckerman technique, involving the use of tar and ultraviolet B (UVB) (290–320 nm).2 Classically ...

The disease of psoriasis is examined as to its incidence, etiology, clinical manifestations, and possible complications. Drugs that might cause dermatotoxic effects are introduced as possible agents that might precede an acute attack. Topical therapy, the initial approach with most forms of mild to moderate psoriasis, may consist of glucocorticoids ...

SURGICAL TREATMENT OF PSORIASIS
The Lancet, 198524 patients with plaque psoriasis were treated by serial dermatome shaving of the affected skin. Depth of excision was to the middle of the reticular dermis. In psoriasis, the earliest observable electron microscopic changes are in the dermal papillary vasculature. The flashlamp-pumped pulsed tunable dye laser can achieve selective photothermolysis of the dermal vasculature. This laser was used to treat eight patients with chronic plaque psoriasis, as it was hypothesized that the ablation of dermal ...

Nail psoriasis is associated with significant disease burden, negative impact on quality of life, and potential progression to psoriatic arthritis. Initiating timely and appropriate treatment is of the utmost importance, especially because nail disease may be more resistant to therapies than cutaneous psoriasis.
