Natural Plant Alkaloid (Emetine) Inhibits HIV-1 Replication by Interfering with Reverse Transcriptase Activity [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
Ipecac alkaloids are secondary metabolites produced in the medicinal plant Psychotria ipecacuanha. Emetine is the main alkaloid of ipecac and one of the active compounds in syrup of Ipecac with emetic property. Here we evaluated emetine’s potential as an

Clonal diversity and conservation genetics of the medicinal plant Carapichea ipecacuanha (Rubiaceae) [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2010
The roots of the understorey shrub Carapichea ipecacuanha (ipecac) have medicinal properties, and the uprooting of wild plants has supplied most of the world demand for this species. Although under severe population decline, C.

In vitro propagation of Psychotria ipecacuanha (Brot.) Stokes under different concentrations of Indoleacetic Acid [PDF]

open access: hybridRevista Fitos, 2018

Stokes [PDF]

open access: hybridRevista Brasileira de Plantas Medicinais, 2002
This work was carried out with Psychotria ipecacuanha, a Brazilian medicinal plant the roots of which contain emetine. The main objective was to develop a protocol for the micro-propagation of these species, by testing different culture techniques, the temporary immersion system, and the semi-solid and liquid media systems.

Ipecac (Psychotria ipecacuanha Standl.) is a Brazilian medicinal species known to present important pharmacological properties: amebicide, emetic and expectorant. The species suffered intense extractivism (root harvesting) and reduction of its habitat.

Emetine and cephaeline production and regulation by in vitro propagation of Psychotria ipecacuanha (Brot.) Stokes in semi-solid media and temporary immersion bioreactor

open access: diamondRevista Fitos, 2020
Psychotria ipecacuanha, is a plant species with known medicinal properties that is critically endangered due to overexploitation of natural populations. Although the difficulties in conventional propagation by seed and by vegetative propagation are generally understood, the present study enhances our knowledge by describing efficient plant regeneration

Substrate‐binding glycine residues are major determinants for hydrolase and ligase activity of plant legumains

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 238, Issue 4, Page 1534-1545, May 2023., 2023
Summary Peptide asparaginyl ligases (PALs) are useful tools for precision modifications of proteins and live‐cell surfaces by ligating peptides after Asn/Asp (Asx). They share high sequence and structural similarity to plant legumains that are generally known as asparaginyl endopeptidases (AEPs), thus making it challenging to identify PALs from AEPs ...

Stokes

open access: hybridRevista Fitos, 2013
This study aimed to seed germination and adventitious shoot regeneration from Psychotria ipecacuanha inverted hypocotyls. The results showed a percentage of 84.17% of seeds germinated with normal seedlings development. The germination started after the second day of cultivation and was observed up to 70 days.
